AI Summary

The Chief Strategy Officer serves as the executive integrator and growth engine, bridging long-term corporate vision with near-term operational execution. This role oversees strategic planning, M&A integration, new business incubation, and sell-side readiness to drive sustainable expansion.

Bluestone delivers great outcomes by bringing exceptional care to patients living with complex, chronic conditions and disabilities. Our unique, robust model of care goes beyond primary care services — our multidisciplinary care teams collaborate with patients, their families and other healthcare providers to deliver care that is preventative, proactive and tailored to their unique needs.

Using an evidence-based approach focused on quality care management and data-driven medical decisions, Bluestone care teams collaborate to manage patients’ chronic conditions, address social determinants of health, manage transitions to and from inpatient settings, provide behavioral health support and more. Under our model of care, Bluestone patients experienced 21% fewer ER visits, 36% fewer hospitalizations and 41% fewer hospital readmissions compared to patients with similar conditions and complexities over the same time period.

Our care teams travel directly to patients who reside in Assisted Living, Memory Care and Group Home communities throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin and Florida and are supported by clinical operations and administrative colleagues who work remotely or at our corporate offices in Stillwater, Minnesota, and Tampa, Florida.

Our success is only possible through the hard work of our employees who bring our core values of Dedication, Excellence, Collaboration and Caring to life every day. Bluestone has been named to the Star Tribune's Top Workplace list for the 14th year in a row! Bluestone also achieved Top Workplace USA 2021-2026! In 2022, Bluestone Accountable Care Organization (ACO) was the best performing ACO in the country as measured by the overall savings per Medicare beneficiary.

Position Overview:

The Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) serves as Bluestone’s executive integrator, mid-term planning architect, and strategic growth engine. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CSO bridges long-term corporate vision with near-term operational execution, closing the 2–6 quarter planning gap and managing cross-functional capacity to drive sustainable top-line expansion. This leader owns macro strategic planning, corporate development integration, core asset roadmaps (Bridge tech, AI enablement), strategic oversight of human capital, and sell-side exit readiness. Operating as an incubation leader, the CSO pilots new service lines, executes M&A integrations, and validates growth opportunities before executing clean handoffs to long-term operational leadership.

Schedule: Full time position

Salary: $225,000 - $280,000 base compensation plus bonus

Responsibilities:

Long-Term Strategy & Mid-Term Roadmap Governance

  • Own Bluestone’s long-term (2–3+ year) strategic planning process, ensuring tight alignment between macro growth goals, market expansion vectors, and the enterprise financial model.
  • Translate multi-year vision into a disciplined mid-term (2–6 quarter) operational planning cycle, bridging long-term strategy with quarterly execution ("rocks").
  • Maintain master development roadmaps for core business assets and capabilities (including the Bridge platform, AI/automation initiatives, and care model enhancements).
  • Partner with Finance to build business cases, ROI assessments, and capital allocation frameworks for major strategic investments, managing organizational capacity to ensure on-time delivery.

Voice of Customer & Market Intelligence

  • Institutionalize continuous feedback loops across senior living operators, clinicians, and patients to ensure real-time market needs inform the strategic roadmap.
  • Monitor market dynamics, competitor positioning, and regulatory shifts to identify strategic risks and emerging expansion vectors.

New Business Incubation & Strategic Handoffs

  • Lead the launch and early-stage incubation of net-new lines of business, service capabilities, and market expansion efforts.
  • Direct post-merger integration (PMI) processes for acquired entities (e.g., MSO, regional practice acquisitions), establishing governance, operational alignment, and synergy capture.
  • Design flexible operational handoff protocols to transfer stabilized initiatives to long-term operational owners—whether integrating into existing primary care leadership or establishing dedicated executive structures.

Exit Readiness, M&A & Private Equity Support

  • Serve as the executive lead for sell-side readiness, working alongside the CEO and CFO to shape the enterprise growth story, value-creation narrative, and strategic positioning for future liquidity events or recapitalizations.
  • Direct market and competitive intelligence to support corporate development, buy-side M&A diligence, and strategic partnership evaluation.
  • Lead management presentation prep, data room curation, and strategic diligence workstreams during fundraising or transaction processes.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 10+ years of senior executive experience in healthcare strategy, corporate development, management consulting, or strategic operations within high-growth, PE-backed platforms.
  • Strategic Integration & Planning: Proven track record of designing mid-term strategic planning frameworks, managing complex cross-functional roadmaps, and executing operational handoffs.
  • Growth & Transaction Experience: Hands-on experience incubating new healthcare service lines, leading M&A integrations, and participating directly in sell-side M&A or PE recapitalization processes.
  • Human Capital Acumen: Demonstrated success connecting organizational design and HR strategy directly to business performance and enterprise valuation.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree (MBA or MHA) strongly preferred.

  • Company paid Life Insurance
  • Company paid Short and Long-term Disability
  • Health Savings Account (with employer contribution)
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
