Business Consultant, Risk and Compliance

Harbor is seeking an experienced Business Consultant to join our growing team.  As an experienced Business Consultant, you will lead significant portions of complex client engagements and serve as a trusted advisor to business and project stakeholders largely focused on the business acceptance and management of regulatory risk within law firms. You will shape solutions, guide delivery, manage risks, and help ensure that client outcomes are practical, scalable, and measurable.

You will bring strong consulting judgment, business analysis capability, and client presence to engagements involving process transformation, technology implementation, data strategy, and operational improvement. You will also help elevate the practice by mentoring junior team members and strengthening Harbor’s delivery methods.

This is a remote position that can work from anywhere in the United States, with preference given to those candidates who can work hybrid from our Chicago office headquarters.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead client workstreams from discovery through implementation, including scoping, requirements gathering, solution design, testing, deployment, and adoption.
• Serve as a primary day-to-day client contact, building trusted relationships and facilitating productive stakeholder discussions about meeting regulatory requirements in professional services firms.
• Translate complex business requirements into clear, scalable process, technology, data, and operating-model recommendations.
• Contribute to the development and management of consulting plans, timelines, deliverables, risks, dependencies, and status reporting.
• Analyze current-state law, processes, systems, and data to identify improvement opportunities and recommend practical solutions.
• Guide solution configuration, data migration planning, testing, quality assurance, and change-management activities as applicable.
• Identify and manage delivery risks, issues, and escalations; recommend timely course corrections to maintain engagement quality.
• Create and present executive-ready materials that clearly communicate findings, recommendations, decisions, and outcomes.
• Partner with sales and engagement leadership on scoping conversations, estimates, and proposed approaches when needed.
• Contribute to Harbor’s consulting methodology, reusable assets, quality standards, and continuous-improvement efforts.

Required qualifications:

• You will have worked within a law firm or other regulated professional service firm, ideally having had exposure to the risk or business acceptance functions.  Alternatively you will have worked for a management consultancy providing advice to business process advice to professional services firms.
• Demonstrated experience leading substantial workstreams or complex projects in a client-facing environment which were focused on business process optimization including the implementation or adaptation of technology to support the changes.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, information systems, finance, or a related field.
• Strong ability to move from ambiguous business challenges to structured, actionable solutions.
• Experience managing stakeholder expectations, facilitating workshops, and communicating effectively with both executives and technical teams.
• Advanced analytical skills and strong proficiency with Excel, presentation tools, and business systems or data platforms.
• Proven ability to manage competing priorities, deliver high-quality work, and exercise sound judgment in fast-moving environments.
• A highly collaborative, self-directed working style and experience partnering with cross-functional and globally distributed teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in professional services, legal, financial services, or another complex, regulated corporate environment.
• Experience leading enterprise software, workflow, data migration and business-process transformation engagements.
• Familiarity with SaaS applications, integrations and APIs, business intelligence tools, or data-quality practices.
• Master’s degree or a consulting, project-management, or process-improvement certification.
