ABOUT THE ROLE

The Area Manager is a key leader within High Performance Academy’s Program Operations Department, responsible for managing people, processes, and projects that drive program quality, operational excellence, and staffing effectiveness. Reporting to the Director of Northern California, this role serves as a strategic and hands-on leader who oversees program lifecycles, staff development, operational systems, KPI performance, and cross-functional collaboration. The Area Manager plays a critical role in ensuring HPA’s Programs, Camps, and Leagues are delivered consistently, efficiently, and in alignment with the organization’s mission, values, and growth goals. This position combines leadership, operational execution, data-driven decision-making, and continuous improvement to enhance both staff success and youth program experiences. This role is a remote opportunity, with travel to visit program sites as required.  
 
HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE 
  • Lead & Develop Teams: Manage and support Program Operations team members through coaching, accountability, performance management, and professional development.
  • Drive Program Excellence: Oversee program lifecycles including onboarding, training, activation, evaluation, and stakeholder feedback to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery.
  • Build & Improve Systems: Support process documentation, operational systems development, and continuous improvement initiatives that create scalable and sustainable operations.
  • Own KPI Performance: Monitor departmental metrics, analyze operational data, identify trends, and implement strategies that improve program performance, staffing efficiency, and organizational outcomes.
  • Manage Operational Resources: Oversee budget adherence, labor cost management, procurement, inventory, and vendor relationships to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Partner Cross-Functionally: Collaborate with Human Resources, Marketing, Growth, Finance, and Regional teams to align operational needs, staffing plans, onboarding, and organizational initiatives.
  • Champion Culture & Values: Foster a positive, accountable, and values-driven environment that supports employee engagement, retention, recognition, and professional growth.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING 
  • Bachelor's degree or experience in relevant field
  • 5+ years of experience in program operations, management, or a related leadership role
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with experience managing and leading a team
  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and document operational systems and processes while implementing and revising existing ones
  • Knowledge of program evaluation, KPI frameworks, budget management and discipline
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management software (Asana and Ninety), and HRIS/scheduling tools (Paycor, Deputy, or equivalent)
  • Experience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment – ideally in youth development, education, community programs, or sports/enrichment
  • Passion for youth development and a deep commitment to HPA's mission to serve 100,000 youth by 2030
  • Must be available occasionally on Saturdays and able to travel locally; valid driver's license required
