Video Producer

Straight Arrow is building a new kind of news organization. We go beyond the talking points to uncover the incentives, tradeoffs, conflicts and human stories driving the issues that matter most. 

Our video team produces original reporting, interviews, news analysis and field journalism across programs including Unbiased Updates, Off Script and Media Miss. We're looking for a journalist-producer who can spot compelling stories, report them out thoroughly, and transform them into engaging video journalism.

About this role:

Straight Arrow is seeking a Video Producer who is a journalist first.

You’ll pitch stories, conduct reporting, book guests, write scripts, produce segments and help shape coverage across our flagship shows. You’ll be just as comfortable digging through research and interviewing sources as you are collaborating on a daily rundown. 

You’ll play a key role in our morning programming, so we’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys mornings, thrives in a fast news environment, and wants to be an active contributor to the energy and conversations that help start our audience’s day. 

The ideal candidate is exceptionally curious, highly organized, quick to learn, and motivated by finding stories others miss. The core of your storytelling revolves around identifying the people at the center of the conflict and producing reporting that adds genuine value to the public conversation. 

Experience developing documentary-style stories for YouTube is a plus, but this is fundamentally a journalism and story production role.

Responsibilities:

Story Development & Reporting

• Pitch original story ideas and fresh angles
• Identify emerging trends, overlooked issues and underreported stories
• Conduct interviews, research and source development
• Surface stories rooted in real-world consequences and competing perspectives 

Writing & Production

• Write scripts, interview outlines and show segments
• Book guests and prepare interviews
• Produce video content from concept through publication
• Collaborate with hosts, editors and leadership to shape editorial direction
• Ensure reporting meets the highest standards of accuracy, fairness and clarity

Show and Audience Development

• Contribute ideas for franchises like Unbiased Updates, Off Script and Media Miss
• Understand what resonates on YouTube and digital platforms
• Experiment with new formats, storytelling techniques and audience engagement strategies
• Occasionally travel for field reporting and production
• Collaborate across Straight Arrow's editorial, marketing, social and product teams to promote reporting and programs

Qualifications:

Required

• 5+ years of experience in journalism, news production, reporting or documentary media
• Proven ability to originate and report stories independently
• Exceptional writing, interviewing and storytelling skills
• Strong news judgment and editorial instincts
• Experience producing fast-moving news content on tight timelines
• Ability to juggle multiple projects without sacrificing quality
• Deep commitment to factual accuracy, fairness and journalistic integrity
• Familiarity with YouTube and digital-first video publishing
• Enthusiasm for early mornings and being part of a daily morning news program

Preferred

• Experience producing news, public affairs or current events programming
• Investigative or enterprise reporting experience
• Documentary development or short-form documentary experience
• Startup media experience
• Video editing skills
• Strong source networks across politics, policy, business, technology, culture, science or local communities

Compensation & Benefits:

• The salary range for this position is $70,000-$90,000.
