Job Summary:

The Vice President, Business of Development leads the development and execution of business plans and commercial strategies for a set number of Key and Strategic customers and or geographic territories. Key responsibilities include driving business development initiatives, fostering strategic partnerships, cultivating relationships with sponsors and key stakeholders within CRO, pharmaceutical, and healthcare organizations, securing new business opportunities, and ensuring the overall growth of new businesses in line with target expectations.

Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships: Establish and nurture strategic relationships with pharmaceutical companies, contract research organizations (CROs), and other stakeholders to foster collaboration and explore partnership opportunities
  • Lead business development efforts: Develop a strategic plan to manage and grow a database of prospects and activities. Develop and execute business development plans, including identifying potential clients, attending conferences and industry events as needed, and leveraging existing networks to generate leads and close deals
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis: Stay updated on industry trends, market dynamics, and competitor activities to identify potential risks and opportunities for the business and provide strategic recommendations
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities: Research and analyze the market to identify potential clients and develop a comprehensive strategy to target and secure new business opportunities in the clinical research sector
  • Collaborate with department leaders: Collaborate with leaders in Operations, Patient Recruitment, Finance, Budgets and Contracts, and Quality/Regulatory to review/determine study selection, meet goals, and deliver quality data to sponsors
  • Collaborate with internal teams: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, finance, and marketing, to ensure seamless coordination and execution of business development strategies and contracts
  • Prepare and present proposals: Develop compelling proposals and presentations tailored to the specific needs and requirements of potential clients, effectively articulating the value proposition and differentiators of our clinical research services
  • Track and report on business development activities: Maintain accurate records of sales activities, monitor progress against targets, and generate regular reports to senior management on business development activities, pipeline, and performance metrics
  • Represent the organization: Act as a brand ambassador for the organization at industry conferences and other relevant events, promoting our services and building awareness and credibility in the clinical research community
  • Employing strategic thinking and problem-solving skills to propose and implement risk mitigations
  • Perform all other duties that may be requested or assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), internet, and the ability to type proficiently
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex concepts to diverse audiences
  • Well-developed interpersonal and listening skills and the ability to work well independently, and collaboratively within a team environment, with clients and sponsors, and with all levels within the organization
  • Exceptional networking and relationship-building capabilities
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a results-oriented mindset
  • Must possess a high degree of integrity and dependability
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and priorities and adapt to changes in workloads and priorities
  • Ability to be professional, respectful of others, self-motivated, and exemplify a strong work ethic
  • Ability to identify problems and implement solutions
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive information in a confidential and professional manner, and in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.

Education and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in life sciences, business, or related field
  • A minimum of ten (10) years related experience in business development or sales within the clinical research industry, with a focus on pharmaceuticals or CROs, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • An advanced degree (MBA, PhD, MD) is a plus
  • Must have strong knowledge of clinical research processes and industry trends, as well as demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships and drive revenue growth.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Set up and take down conference tables/exhibits
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
  • Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and making fine discriminations in sound
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
