Temp Parttime Faculty - Geography (GIS)

The UNM invites applicants to apply for a Temporary Part-Time Geography (GIS Science) Faculty (Adjunct) member to teach for Spring and Fall 2027.  This posting is primarily for face-to-face  instruction and potentially some remote delivery of courses.  

This position will be hired on an as needed basis dependent on student enrollment, course offering matrix, and graduation requirements.  The specific courses include, but are not limited to, the following: 

GEOG 1115

Explore the principles of Geographic Information Science (GIScience) and its applications in solving human, natural, and socio-environmental challenges. Learn to evaluate geospatial data and technologies; analyze their significance, implications, and applications; and communicate insights effectively. Topics include map use, spatial data analysis, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS).

GEOG 1115 L

Gain hands-on field and laboratory experience with geospatial tools, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). Manage, collect, analyze, interpret, and visualize spatial data to solve real-world problem, and develop your own GIScience research report.

We propose a base salary of $1,157.97 to $1,240.17 per credit hour depending on successful candidates’ qualifications.  This posting is for both face to face and remote delivery of courses. 

Minimum Qualifications:

To teach or develop courses in the field or subfield for which you are applying are determined by Higher Learning Commission’s accreditation requirements for faculty, and must be met in these ways:

Master’s degree in the discipline or subfield in which they are applying to teach.  Applicant must have completed a program of study in the discipline or subfield in which they teach, with coursework at least one level above that of the courses being taught or developed (e.g., completed a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline or subfield in which they teach or tested experience that is determined to be equivalent to the degree).

Preferred Qualifications:

Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution, particularly a community college.

A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understand of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities

Demonstrated experience in remote delivery of instruction.
