Purpose of Role:

The Sustainability Specialist leads the development, integration, and management of corporate and site-based Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies at the Copper Mountain mine, British Columbia business unit (BCBU). This role advances the company’s commitment to responsible mining by embedding sustainability standards—such as Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) protocols, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001—across BCBU departments, while maintaining key ratings and certifications. Responsible for ensuring rigorous compliance with international reporting frameworks, driving decarbonization initiatives, and monitoring and reporting emissions and sustainability performance Hudbay-wide to stakeholders, the Specialist builds the business case for sustainability projects and facilitates post-project measurement and verification.

Additionally, the position serves as a key strategic advisor to internal leadership, bridging operational engineering, environmental management, corporate communications, and investor relations to advance environmental stewardship, foster a culture of responsible resource development, and align sustainable practices with corporate and site-based long-term business resilience, growth, and social license to operate.

Role Accountabilities:

ESG Reporting, Disclosures & Framework Management:

• Support the end-to-end data collection, validation, and publication of the annual Corporate Sustainability Report in alignment with various industry standards.
• Support the annual corporate disclosures and ensure site-level compliance and reporting against industry-specific standards, such as the Mining Association of Canada’s Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) framework or equivalent benchmarks.
• Audit and improve ESG data governance, such as implementing digital tracking solutions to maintain audit-ready sustainability metrics.

Decarbonization, Climate Strategy & Energy Transition:

• Manage the site-based greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting program across Scope 1, Scope 2, and material Scope 3 emissions, where applicable.
• Partner with site team and leaders to design and monitor execution plans for carbon reduction goals, GHG reduction roadmaps, and energy efficiency programs.
• Support and lead site-based climate risk and vulnerability assessments to integrate scenario analysis into risk registers and strategic planning.

Operational Integration & Environmental Stewardship:

• Collaborate with site-based teams to benchmark performance in areas such as water management, tailings safety, waste minimization, and biodiversity conservation.
• Perform internal sustainability audits to ensure alignment between corporate commitments and field execution.

Stakeholder Engagement & Strategic Partnering:

• Work closely with Investor Relations and Communications to articulate the business unit sustainability performance to shareholders, financial institutions, and ESG analysts.
• Support Community Relations teams by incorporating socio-economic indicators, human rights policies, and local engagement data into corporate disclosures.
• Represent the company in industry associations, sustainability related working groups, and multi-stakeholder coalitions.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability Management, Resource Management, or a related discipline required. A Master’s degree (M.Sc., MEM, or MBA with Sustainability emphasis) is preferred.
• Professional accreditation such as ISSP-SA/CSP, FSA Credential (SASB), PE, or relevant GHG Accounting certifications are considered strong assets.
• more than 5 years of direct experience in corporate sustainability, ESG strategy, or environmental management within industrial, natural resources, mining, energy, or infrastructure sectors.

Other skills:

• Exceptional quantitative skills with high attention to detail in data validation, auditing, and trend analysis,
• Demonstrated ability to influence, guide, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams without direct line authority,
• Superior written and verbal communication skills, with proven capability in translating complex data into strategic executive summaries and public reports,
• Ability to navigate evolving regulatory landscapes, emerging frameworks, and complex multi-stakeholder expectations.

Travel:

• While this position is primary remote, candidates must have high travel availability and the flexibility to arrive at our job site in Princeton, BC within a 24-hour notice window. Seamless travel readiness and regional proximity are essential for success in this role.

• Expected Compensation: Base salary $106,470.00 - $112,385.00 CAD per year.
