Job Overview

The Student Accounts Specialist supports the financial operations and integrity of student accounts across all partnerships, serving as the primary point of contact for student and campus account inquiries. The role combines hands-on account servicing with staff-level accounting responsibility — including month-end close, reconciliation, and receivables analysis — and identifies opportunities to strengthen financial controls and operational efficiency. Reporting to the Sr. Manager Revenue Accounting, the Student Accounts Specialist is an analytical problem solver with strong attention to detail, sound financial judgment, and a service-oriented approach to working with internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Functions

Accounting

• Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations in NetSuite within close deadlines for specific student level transactions.
• Process student payments in Salesforce and reconcile student balances and cash receipts between Salesforce and NetSuite; research and resolve variances, maintain accurate account records, and escalate unresolved items.
• Review refund requests for student eligibility and policy compliance; coordinate with Accounts Payable on refund and payment timing to ensure proper period recognition; partner with the Sr. Manager Revenue on refund analysis’ for the Executive Team.
• Support accounting team with providing excellent customer service to Campus Operations, Enrollment Services, and Recruitment teams through consistent, courteous, and timely communication regarding account/payment status, inquiries, refund requests, and disputes
• Assist with corporate audit readiness and other projects as assigned
• Help to improve internal processes, systems, and procedures

Security

• Comply with Shorelight Written Information Security Policy, and all other Shorelight Information Security Policies and Procedures
• Take responsibility for any Shorelight assets assigned to you
• Promptly report any security events, incidents, or weaknesses to Shorelight Security

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to work overlapping hours with a US-based team (minimum 4 hours overlapping with US Eastern business hours)
• Bachelor's degree in business-related field
• Proven expertise using Microsoft Office products, primarily Excel
• Detail oriented, with exceptional organization and communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the company
• Customer service focused, with demonstrated ability to communicate courteously and timely
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or Finance, experience working in accounting or finance team
• Experience with a CRM system such as Salesforce
• Experience working with accounting software such as NetSuite
• Experience working successfully with non-native English speakers
