As a key member of the Agile delivery organization, the Senior Technical Product Owner is responsible for maximizing business value by defining, prioritizing, and managing product backlogs for enterprise pharmacy applications and platforms. This role serves as the primary liaison between Business, Operations, Product Management, Architecture, Engineering, and Vendor teams to ensure the successful delivery of enhancements, projects, operational improvements, and regulatory initiatives.
The Senior Technical Product Owner translates business objectives, customer needs, and operational requirements into actionable capabilities, features, and user stories while ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and technology standards. The role is accountable for backlog management, requirement definition, stakeholder alignment, and delivery execution within an Agile environment.
Success in this role requires strong business acumen, technical understanding, stakeholder management skills, Agile expertise, and a focus on delivering measurable business outcomes and operational efficiencies.
Required Competencies
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Technical Product Owner, Business Analyst, Product Manager, or related role.
- Strong experience managing product backlogs within Agile delivery organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to translate business and operational requirements into features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Experience collaborating with engineering, architecture, operations, and business stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of Agile frameworks, product lifecycle management, and software delivery processes.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and balance strategic, operational, and regulatory demands.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, negotiation, and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Knowledge of healthcare, pharmacy operations, or regulated industries preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Product Backlog Ownership & Prioritization
- Own, maintain, and prioritize product backlogs for enterprise pharmacy applications and platforms.
- Collaborate with business and operational stakeholders to identify and prioritize work that delivers maximum business value.
- Define backlog priorities by balancing strategic initiatives, operational needs, defect remediation, regulatory requirements, and technical improvements.
- Ensure backlog items are properly refined, estimated, and ready for development and delivery.
Requirements Management & Solution Definition
- Partner with business, operations, engineering, and architecture teams to gather, analyze, and document requirements.
- Translate business requirements into epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional specifications.
- Ensure requirements are clearly defined, testable, and aligned to business objectives.
- Participate in solution design discussions and provide business and operational context to delivery teams.
Agile Delivery & Execution
- Support Agile ceremonies including backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Work closely with engineering and testing teams to clarify requirements and remove delivery impediments.
- Review completed functionality and validate that delivered solutions meet business expectations and acceptance criteria.
- Coordinate release readiness and support successful deployment of new capabilities and enhancements.
Stakeholder Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the primary point of contact between business stakeholders and technology teams.
- Facilitate prioritization discussions and manage stakeholder expectations regarding scope, delivery timelines, and dependencies.
- Build alignment across Product Management, Operations, Architecture, Engineering, Security, and Vendor organizations.
- Communicate delivery progress, risks, issues, dependencies, and business impacts to stakeholders and leadership teams.
Value Delivery & Continuous Improvement
- Define and monitor business outcomes, operational metrics, and success criteria for delivered capabilities.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, workflow optimization, automation, and operational efficiencies.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across applications, processes, and delivery practices.
- Drive adoption of data-driven decision-making and outcome-based prioritization.

- Proven experience managing complex product backlogs supporting enterprise-scale applications and business processes.
- Strong understanding of operational workflows, customer service, fulfillment, pharmacy operations, and transaction-processing environments.
- Experience defining and managing epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and release scope.
- Demonstrated ability to convert strategic objectives into actionable delivery plans and measurable business outcomes.
- Strong analytical skills with experience leveraging operational data, business metrics, and user feedback to drive prioritization decisions.
- Experience partnering with architecture and engineering teams to define scalable, maintainable, and supportable solutions.
- Working knowledge of APIs, system integrations, workflow orchestration, and enterprise application architectures.
- Demonstrated ability to manage dependencies, resolve competing priorities, and drive alignment across multiple stakeholder groups.
- Experience supporting production applications, operational improvements, regulatory initiatives, and business-critical projects.
- Strong presentation, communication, facilitation, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and make informed product decisions with minimal supervision.
- Experience working within high-volume, mission-critical, and compliance-driven business environments.

Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range
The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.
$104,000 - $143,000 per year
This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
