JOB SUMMARY
We're hiring Senior Manager- People Operations to own the operational backbone of our People & Culture function. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who has built and run people operations in complex, multi-jurisdictional environments and knows what "good" looks like in payroll, benefits, and HRIS without needing it to be handed to them. This role is based in our Pune, India office and operates on US business hours to support our North American employee population. You'll lead a team of two direct reports and report directly to the Chief People & Culture Officer. Requirements

What You'll Own
Payroll

• Own end-to-end US payroll processing (semi-monthly) for ~300+ employees across multiple states, with hands-on accountability for accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
• Manage Canadian payroll operations across multiple provinces, including Quebec — navigating jurisdiction-specific deductions, tax filing, and regulatory requirements
• Partner with Finance on payroll accounting, GL reconciliation, and audit readiness
• Lead remediation and ongoing maintenance of multi-state payroll tax registrations, including proactive identification and resolution of tax ID gaps in Rippling
• Stay current on federal, state/provincial, and local payroll compliance changes across all operating jurisdictions

Benefits Administration

• Own US benefits program design and administration, including medical, dental, vision, FSA/HSA, 401(k), life, and ancillary lines
• Manage open enrollment end-to-end — plan selection, carrier coordination, employee communications, and system configuration in Rippling
• Lead broker relationship and serve as the primary point of contact for carriers and TPAs
• Ensure ACA compliance, reporting, and filing (1094/1095-C)
• Support Canada benefits strategy in partnership with local HR resources (Pune/India ancillary benefits as applicable)

HRIS — Rippling

• Serve as the system owner and subject matter expert for Rippling across all modules: payroll, benefits, PTO, headcount, and integrations
• Own data integrity, configuration, workflows, and role-based access
• Lead HRIS optimization initiatives — building automation, improving self-service, and reducing manual lift across the People team
• Manage Rippling-to-Intacct integration, including issue escalation and resolution with vendor support
• Partner with Finance and IT on system governance, data validation, and new module rollouts

People Operations & Compliance

• Directly manage and develop two People Operations team members — setting priorities, building capability, and creating a high-performing team culture
• Develop and maintain HR policies across US and Canada jurisdictions, ensuring alignment with applicable employment law
• Support BYOD compliance framework, records retention, and HR audit readiness across US, Canada, and India •
• Manage unemployment claims, leave administration (FMLA, state leaves, parental), and workers' compensation programs
• Comfortable working US business hours from Pune — this is a firm requirement given the payroll and benefits support model for our North American workforce

What You Bring

• 7+ years in People Operations, HR Operations, or a directly equivalent function — with demonstrated ownership of payroll and benefits, not just advisory support
• Prior experience managing direct reports with a track record of developing team members and driving accountability
• Hands-on payroll processing experience in both the US (multi-state) and Canada (multi province) — this is a hard requirement
• Deep Rippling expertise; you can configure it, troubleshoot it, and train others on it
• Strong knowledge of US payroll tax compliance, benefits regulations (ACA, ERISA, COBRA), and Canadian payroll and employment standards
• Familiarity with Quebec-specific requirements (Law 25, CNESST, provincial payroll nuances) is a meaningful plus •
• Experience operating in a PE-backed, high-growth, or scaling SaaS environment — you know how to move fast with evolving structure
• Exceptional attention to detail combined with an ability to zoom out and see the system level picture
• Strong cross-functional communication skills — you can translate payroll and compliance complexity for Finance, Legal, and executive stakeholders
• A builder's mentality: you identify gaps, propose solutions, and execute without waiting for someone to hand you a playbook

Nice to Have

• Experience with India-based payroll or HR coordination (particularly in Pune/Maharashtra)
• Familiarity with SR&ED tax credits or other Canadian R&D incentive programs
• CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or equivalent certification
• Experience with equity/stock plan administration or MIP/bonus program operationalization
• Prior experience managing an RPO or staffing partner relationship

EDUCATION

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance/Accounting, or a related field.
