OVERVIEW

Reporting to the General Counsel, the Senior Manager, Corporate Compliance and Risk is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the organization's compliance, enterprise risk management, business continuity, and policy governance programs.  Working closely with senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, this role is responsible for ensuring effective governance, risk management, regulatory compliance, and organizational resilience across the enterprise.

The role ensures organizational adherence to applicable legal and regulatory requirements, promotes a culture of ethical conduct and risk awareness, and provides strategic leadership in identifying, assessing, and mitigating enterprise risks.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive corporate compliance program, ensuring adherence to all provincial and federal relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards impacting the organization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess and mitigate compliance risks, conducting regular internal audits and reviews.
  • Lead the maintenance and enhancement of the organization's Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and Incident Management Program, including policies, procedures, testing activities, and collaboration with business stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance and training to employees on compliance matters, fostering a culture of ethics and integrity within the organization.
  • Stay updated on evolving compliance requirements, proactively adjusting policies and procedures to align with changes in the regulatory environment.
  • Lead document retention and corporate policy harmonization initiatives, including the development, implementation, and maintenance of compliance policies, procedures, and controls, while partnering with Internal Audit and business stakeholders.
  • Serve as department lead for SOC II readiness activities, providing guidance, documentation, and coordination across cross-functional teams.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on departmental KPIs and performance metrics that demonstrate operational effectiveness, team impact, and strategic outcomes.
  • Assist with Department budget assignments and tracking, and special projects as required.
  • Prepare departmental presentations and other corporate project materials as requested by the General Counsel.
  • Serve as the lead for Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Incident Management programs, developing risk assessment methodologies, heat maps, dashboards, and reporting tools that support data-informed decision-making.
  • Lead process improvement with legal department operations and optimization efforts in each subgroup area.
  • Serve as the legal and compliance lead for enterprise initiatives such as CRM, CLM, Business Continuity Planning, and other strategic projects, ensuring departmental participation is aligned with organizational objectives.


Training and Engagement

  • Lead the development of training programs that build compliance and risk awareness and capabilities across departments.
  • Champion a culture of proactive risk management and ethical decision-making through workshops, engagement sessions, and internal communications.
  • Collaborate with business units and external partners to foster an integrated, risk-aware organization.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, governmental filings, managing compliance inquiries, reporting, and inspections.
  • Develop and deliver mandatory compliance, privacy, ethics, and risk management training programs while maintaining records of participation and effectiveness metrics.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Business Administration, Risk Management, Public Policy, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certifications such as CCEP, CRMP, CRM, CBCP, PMP, or CIPP/C are considered assets.
  • A Juris Doctor (JD), LL.B., or MBA is considered an asset.


Experience

  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in compliance, risk management, governance, legal operations, internal audit, regulatory affairs, or a related field.
  • Solid experience in corporate compliance or related roles, demonstrating a deep understanding of regulatory environments and risk management.
  • Experience analyzing provincial and federal regimes, strong legal research, drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with business applications and reporting tools, including JIRA, Microsoft Office Suite, and data analysis or dashboarding tools.
  • Project management; oral and written communication; analytical problem solving, decision making, time management and computer and application literacy, very strong attention to detail.


Knowledge/Competencies/Skills

  • Strong knowledge of corporate compliance frameworks, governance practices, and enterprise risk management principles.
  • Knowledge of business continuity planning, incident management, policy governance, and regulatory compliance practices.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and training skills, capable of conveying complex compliance matters clearly to employees at all levels.
  • Experience preparing executive-level presentations, reports, dashboards, and Board materials.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining the highest ethical standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and drive organizational change.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • All CM employees work approximately 40 hours per week, remotely from a Canadian home office environment.


PAY TRANSPARENCY

Expected Compensation: 

  • An annual base salary in the range of $105,000 to $130,000
  • The salary range listed complies with the Ontario Employment Standards Act and reflects a potential base salary range for this role.  The actual salary offered will be determined within the range, and will depend on factors, such as the candidate’s unique qualifications, relevant experience, work location and expected contributions.
