Senior Director, Real World Evidence

Position Overview

In this role, you will lead Adaptive Biotechnologies’ Real-world Evidence (RWE) team, with a primary focus on building, shaping, and leveraging Adaptive’s real world data strategy to support, validate, and describe the scientific and clinical value of Adaptive’s products. You will help establish Adaptive as a leader in rigorous, reproducible, and regulatory grade evidence generation. You will define the vision, priorities, and roadmap for Adaptive’s real-world data platform and evidence generation, and build the cross-functional team and partnerships needed to bring that vision to life. Working closely with Product Management, IT Engineering, R&D, Medical Affairs, Customer Operations, Market Access, Commercial Technology Strategy, and Legal, you will ensure that analyses and data assets are designed to demonstrate the real world performance, clinical utility, and value of Adaptive’s products.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Evidence Strategy and Roadmap Development

• You will lead the strategy for how RWD can be used to unlock the full clinical and commercial value of Adaptive products.
• Partner with executive leadership to shape Adaptive's enterprise data strategy and identify emerging opportunities where real-world evidence can accelerate corporate growth, market differentiation, and strategic partnerships.
• Define and own the evidence roadmap for Adaptive products, identifying high-impact opportunities for RWE to support clinical decision-making, regulatory and payor engagement, market access, and physician adoption.
• Translate product, clinical, and commercial priorities into clear, actionable RWE strategies, including study concepts, data requirements, analytic approaches, timelines, and resourcing needs.
• Partner closely with Product Management, IT Engineering, R&D, Medical Affairs, Customer Operations, Market Access, and Legal to ensure evidence generation is aligned with business goals and product strategy.
• Lead prioritization decisions across disease indications and external pharmaceutical partnership opportunities, balancing scientific impact, strategic value, customer and partner needs, feasibility, and available resources.

Team & Functional Leadership

• Build, lead, and develop a high-performing organization consisting of RWE Analysts and data engineers, creating leadership depth and capability across the function.
• Establish and manage the functional operating budget, external data investments, technology investments, and strategic partnership spend required to execute the RWD and RWE roadmap.

Real-world Data Development

• You will lead the development of Adaptive’s real-world data assets to support high-quality evidence generation.
• Define the data requirements, data models, and governance needs required to support priority RWD use cases.
• Guide the development and curation of internal and external RWD sources, including clinical data partnerships, linked datasets, and other fit-for-purpose data assets.
• Partner with Product Management, IT Engineering, and Commercial Technology Strategy to ensure data assets are designed for scalable, reproducible evidence generation.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in Adaptive’s data, including its structure, quality, limitations, and appropriate use in evidence generation.

Study Design and Analysis

• You will lead the design and execution of rigorous RWE studies that demonstrate the value of Adaptive products
• Oversee the development of statistical analysis plans and analytic approaches to answer key scientific questions about use of Adaptive’s products in the real world.
• Ensure RWE studies meet high standards for reproducibility, transparency, scientific rigor, and relevance to clinical, regulatory, payor, and commercial stakeholders.
• Translate study results into actionable scientific and business recommendations.

Internal and External Communication

• You will bring teams together around a shared RWD vision and represent Adaptive as a thought leader in real-world evidence.
• Communicate the RWD strategy, roadmap, and evidence-generation priorities clearly across internal teams and leadership audiences.
• Build alignment across Product Management, IT Engineering, R&D, Medical, Customer Operations, Market Access, Legal, and commercial stakeholders to ensure RWD initiatives move from strategy to execution.
• Develop scientific communications, including presentations, abstracts, manuscripts, and external-facing materials, translating analyses into clear and compelling insights.
• Represent Adaptive externally with clinical, scientific, regulatory, payor, data partner, and industry audiences as a credible thought leader in real-world data and evidence generation.

Position Requirements (Education, Experience, Other)

Required

• Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in biostatistics, epidemiology, health economics, bioinformatics, data science, or a related quantitative field.
• 14+ years of experience with a MS, or 10+ years with a PhD, in real-world data, healthcare data strategy, diagnostics, or life sciences 
• Experience managing subordinate managers
• Demonstrated ability to define and execute a real-world data strategy that supports clinical, scientific, regulatory, payor, commercial, and external partnership objectives.
• Experience building and leading cross-functional teams across product, analytics, engineering, scientific, and business functions.
• Deep understanding of real-world data sources, including electronic health records, health information exchange data, insurance claims data, registries, genomic data and linked data sets.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, build alignment across stakeholders, and move complex initiatives from strategy through execution.
• Proven expertise in data quality assessment, validation, governance, and curation workflows.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain reproducible coding practices and scalable analytic processes.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, build alignment across stakeholders, and move complex initiatives from strategy through execution.
• Strong communication, presentation, and collaboration skills with executive, technical, scientific, clinical, commercial, and external partner audiences.

Compensation

Salary Range: $231,800 - $347,800

Possible “other compensation” elements to include:
