Senior DevOps Engineer

About the role

Olive Jar Digital is seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to support a public sector digital project, focusing on automating code security controls and improving shared engineering tooling.

You'll work with GitHub and Terraform to automate repository compliance checks, strengthen security controls and reduce the manual effort involved in code security reviews. Working closely with engineering and security stakeholders, you'll improve existing tooling, introduce automated checks and ensure results are documented and traceable.

This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone with experience in DevOps, infrastructure automation and GitHub security configuration.

What you'll be doing

• Automating code security and repository compliance checks.

• Improving shared GitHub tooling and Terraform-based configuration.

• Integrating automated controls into CI/CD pipelines and engineering workflows.

• Reviewing existing repositories, identifying gaps and implementing improvements.

• Producing clear evidence of compliance checks, exceptions and areas requiring manual review.

• Writing maintainable, tested code and technical documentation.

• Collaborating with engineering and security teams to prioritise improvements and share knowledge.

About you

• Active SC security clearance is essential.

• Strong experience configuring and managing GitHub repository controls and settings.

• Hands-on experience with Terraform and infrastructure or configuration automation.

• Experience developing automation to assess technical controls, configurations or compliance requirements.

• Good understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.

• Experience maintaining existing codebases, troubleshooting issues and improving engineering tooling.

• Ability to write production-quality code, maintain documentation and collaborate with technical stakeholders.

Desirable experience

• Code security frameworks and security assurance processes.

• Policy-as-code or compliance automation.

• Public sector or government digital project experience.

• Working alongside cyber security, data protection or assurance teams.
