Summary of the Position:  Research Assistant supports the design, execution, and dissemination of applied research initiatives across a range of focus areas, including child welfare, juvenile justice, and behavioral health. This role involves collaborating on research projects from concept to completion, contributing to data collection and analysis, and helping translate findings into meaningful insights for internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytically strong, and able to connect data-driven findings to broader social impact trends.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  1. Assist in the development and implementation of special research projects (e.g., conduct literature reviews, edit manuscripts).
  2. Collect and analyze data from a variety of sources utilizing quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods techniques (e.g., primary sources internal to YAP; secondary sources including the U.S. Census).
  3. Prepare and present research findings to internal and external teams.
  4. Assist in the development and submission of research proposals to publications, conferences, and other opportunities

Schedule: 10 hours per week

Qualifications/Education:

  • Current graduate students are encouraged to apply; coursework or experience in research methods, social sciences, public policy, or a related field is preferred
  • Familiarity with the following or similar programs: 
    • Quantitative Analysis: Microsoft Excel, SPSS
    • Qualitative Analysis: ATLAS.ti, Ninivo, Dedoose
    • Qualtrics including survey creation, distribution, and analysis features
    • Microsoft Office, Outlook 
  • Detail-oriented, story-focused, ability to connect findings to broader trends across fields including child welfare, juvenile justice, behavioral-health and more
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexible and skilled at adjusting to new timelines and projects
  • Grant writing experience preferred but not required.
