Remote EMT-III or Paramedic

Job Description:
This is a temporary, full-time position lasting for 30 calendar days beginning July 8th, 2024.

JOB SUMMARY

The mission and purpose of this position are to compassionately deliver high-quality service and basic patient care in a professional, caring and cost-effective manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following list represents the primary responsibilities of a remote EMT-III or Paramedic. The relative importance of these responsibilities may vary from region to region and should be discussed by each Paramedic with his/her supervisor.

Medical Duties:

• Evaluates, treats, and stabilizes routine and urgent patients within the scope of practice and standing orders established by the sponsoring physician (EMT-III/Paramedic), with expanded scope responsibilities
• Consult with Medical Director as needed
• Administer over the counter medications
• Ordering/restocking of medical supplies
• Medical health screenings
• Administering flu shots and maintain proper documentation
• Paperwork for proper work release, patient care
• Scheduling CASEVAC/MEDEVAC
• First Aid / First Aid Bag training for all camp and field crews
• Restocking of First Aid Bags
• Working with Camp safety for bi-monthly Safety meetings
• Assess each call situation to determine best course of action and appropriate protocol.
• Utilize medical equipment and procedures including defibrillator, EKG monitor, oxygen and suction devices, intravenous fluids, CPR and other procedures and medications as required to provide advanced medical care.
• Develop and utilize triage skills to provide optimal efficiency during calls.
• Provide patient care according to clinical protocols and safety requirements.
• Lift and move patients as required to provide optimum care.
• Act as team leader and take responsibility for scene management as needed.
• Keep current on certifications.
• Monitor and maintain the general condition of the work area, keep it clean and stocked to maintain the image of Guardian Flight and GMR.
• Must stay current with advanced training, instructor credentials, and continuing education.
• Must successfully complete and remain current with MSHA required courses, participate in mine rescue drills; and must maintain all mine safety policies and complete all safety training.
• Obtain Department of Transportation certification in the collection and processing of urine and breath alcohol testing.
• Ability to function independently and be a self-starter in isolated locations that have poor communication and no support agencies.

Weather Observer Duties:

• Daily weather observation and recording
• Send weather reports to camp project manager, safety, environmental, and admin in the morning
• Send weather reports to flight companies for daily flights and keep companies updated on weather changes.
• Talk to inbound pilots, informing them of present weather conditions

Bear Guard Duties:

• Monitor camp for bear and other animal sightings
• Use different deterrent methods to scare animals out of camp and away from personnel
• Use lethal force as a last resort
• Fill out required documentation for sightings and deterrent
• Help train/inform camp personnel on animal safety
• Help train camp personnel on shotgun safety and use

Airfield/Runway Management Duties:

• Ensure runway is safe for plane to land
• Ensure runway is clear of debris, animals and people
• Control who has access to runway while planes are on the ground
• Talk to inbound pilots on runway conditions
• DOT-Drug/Alcohol Technicians
• Administer Drug and Alcohol tests
• Fill out proper documentation
• Send samples to proper testing sites
• Conduct bag and room checks

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Possess a valid State of Alaska Driver's License.
• Current State of Alaska Paramedic or EMT-III Certification.
• Current National Registry.
• Driving record in compliance with GMR policy regarding insurability.
• Minimum 5 years' experience as a Paramedic/EMT III, with the ability to function beyond the typical "street environment," where treatment may be the priority not transport.
• Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work independently and as a team member, employ discretion and confidentiality in sensitive areas, read, interpret, and follow instructions.
• Available to work extended shifts at remote mine sites.
