Starrett-Bytewise Measurement Systems is a growing company that is an industry leader in designing and building precision, laser-based, non-contact measurement equipment. Starrett-Bytewise is seeking a qualified candidate with expertise in technical sales.  The position will be responsible for direct sales of all Starrett-Bytewise products across the midwestern and northeastern United States as well as portions of eastern Canada.  The Regional Sales Manager will be responsible for developing a network within the industries that Bytewise serves, generating leads through routine contact, and following up with these contacts.  This position will be expected to introduce the company and product lines to potential customers via phone, email, and face-to-face contact.  The Regional Sales Manager will ultimately be expected to close sales and meet sales goals as established by the Global Sales Director, to whom this position will report.  The Regional Sales Manager will be required to uphold the highest of ethical standards in all dealings with the customer and build a positive impression on Starrett-Bytewise to our customers.


Required Attributes and Experience:
 
  • Minimum three years’ experience in selling industrial solution products (as opposed to commodity components) in the $20-250k price range.
  • Experience in measurement technology.
  • Working knowledge of one or more of tire manufacturing, rubber/plastic extrusion, metal roll-forming, or other similar industries.
  • Knowledge of quality concepts such as Lean, 6-Sigma, SPC, etc.
  • Strong self-driven personality.  Able to work alone and remain motivated.
  • Professional communication skills, both written and spoken, and ability to conduct presentations to senior management. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate instruments and software operation at customer’s site – requires strong computer use skills or software background.

  • Experience in software sales
  • Experience in vision system technology
  • BS Degree in a technical field
  • Experience in home-office based selling


Job Duties
  • Meeting Sales Goals: Will be responsible for achieving sales targets as set by the Global Sales Director.
  • Product Knowledge: Acquire knowledge about Starrett-Bytewise products to effectively communicate their value to potential customers.  Will work frequently with the Product Managers to stay informed of changes made to the systems.
  • Market Development: In coordination with the Global Sales Director, the Regional Sales Manager will be responsible for educating the marketplace about Starrett-Bytewise products such that demand is created for the product.  This will be done by following up on leads generated by advertising, cold-calling, networking, etc.  The position will be responsible to follow-up with and assess all leads generated for the territory.  Will be expected to suggest ways that the marketing effort can be improved or expanded.
  • Sales Calls: Will travel to customer facilities for the purposes of introducing and demonstrating the products and negotiating purchase agreements.  These customers will include both end-users and OEMs.  May make joint calls with Product Managers and Application Engineers in cases where more in-depth technical knowledge is required. The Regional Sales Manager will be responsible for planning their own travel in a time- and cost-effective manner. 
  • Sales Reporting: Will be responsible for maintaining records within the company CRM and submitting activity reports such as visit reports, quote issues, sales closed, forecasted sales, etc. 
  • Product Development:  Will work closely with the Product Managers and will provide timely feedback on product improvements or new products based upon experience and customer feedback.
  • Professionalism: Exhibit a professional demeanor that shows responsiveness, respect, courteousness, and skill when working with customers, vendors, and co-workers.
  • Other Duties: Other duties may be assigned from time to time.
           
Work Environment:
Job will almost mostly be performed in an office environment.  Frequently, this job will require work at a customer or prospect’s office or manufacturing facility.  The characteristics described below are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this position.   • While performing duties of this job, would frequently be required to maintain a stationary position and operate a computer and telephone.
  • When at a customer’s site, must be able to move through an industrial facility, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Must be able to have manual dexterity to operate equipment and tools required on the job.

Salary:            Commensurate with education, experience, and skill set.  Will combine base salary with a commission plan based on personal sales volume.

Location:         Based from your home office.  Strong preference for candidates located in the upper Midwest (Michigan, Indiana, or Ohio).  Must be located within one hour of a major airport.

Travel:            Up to 50%, travel will fluctuate throughout the year based on the needs of the company and customers.  Must have a valid passport and driver’s license.
