MobilizeGreen is seeking a Program Manager to join our residential, on-site Youth Conservation Programs (YCP) team. As a Manager, you must be committed to the organization’s mission, our participants’ wellbeing, and our partner’s project goals. In this role, you will serve as a key contact, supervisor, and administrator for multiple youth cohorts based in the National Forest System.

Position Abstract: You will manage a team of 2-3 Program Coordinators in all preparation, implementation, and program evaluation for an overnight, travel conservation program, including recruitment, onboarding, training, and management of crews. This is a largely self-directed role that requires confidence in remote team leadership, data management, outdoor safety, and creative problem solving. The program centers personal and professional development in conservation and land management careers. Each summer, about 72 students from all across the United States of America will travel together to participate in the program for 3 weeks. Students will likely be hosted by the Superior National Forest (MN), the San Bernardino National Forest (CA), and a third national forest site. A program coordinator will be stationed at each site to supervise a team of 5 crew leaders (ages 21+). Travel to the sites is required for training, quality assurance, and in the case of emergencies requiring additional personnel. 


Location: Washington, D.C. or Remote

Travel to host sites may be required prior to and throughout the program dates. Flights, ground transportation, lodging/camping, and travel meals are funded for the duration of the agreement. Travel is required approximately 15% of the year for this position. 

 

Term: 3 month trial period, October 1, 2026 - December 31, 2026. If accepted for a permanent position, the position is funded through August 2028. 


Prospective Program Dates (subject to change): 

  • Staff Training: May 30 - June 12, 2027
  • Cohort 1: June 13 - July 3, 2027 
  • Administrative week: July 4 - July 10, 2027
  • Cohort 2: July 11 - July 31, 2027 
  • Administrative Week: August 1 - August 6, 2027

Benefits:

  • $27-$35 per hour compensation, based on experience

Core Duties

 

Program Development

  • Maintain positive relationships with project partners and stakeholders
  • Meet regularly with USFS staff to ensure alignment with goals, requirements, and budget
  • Conduct annual reviews of key program materials including handbooks, training materials, curriculum, and recruiting materials
  • Identify barriers for underserved populations and implement mitigation strategies
  • Ensure that MobilizeGreen’s mission is the driving force for all programmatic decisions


Financial Oversight

  • Planning and forecasting all programmatic expenditures
  • Review financial needs, prioritize resources, and secure or provide formal authorization
  • Track actual spending, manage cash flow, and adjust allocations in real time as unexpected needs arise
  • Compare final expenditures against the original forecast to evaluate performance and guide future planning


Staff Development and Management

  • Create and maintain a friendly, collaborative team environment
  • Work closely with other MobilizeGreen staff to allocate and address organizational priorities, resources, and needs
  • Direct and guide 2-3 program coordinators to ensure timely preparation, and efficient resource usage
  • Coordinate workshops, software training, tools training, or compliance instruction for staff


Logistical Implementation

  • Guide coordinators in planning housing (cabins or dorms), camping, meal planning, recreation, and education 
  • Review plans and schedules for compliance with standard safety policies, and alignment with budget projections
  • Assist in supporting emergency incident response which may include wildfire evacuations, medical emergencies, behavioral incidents, and more 


Participant Recruitment and Onboarding

  • Complete an annual review of position descriptions, recruiting process, outreach strategy, outreach materials, and onboarding packets
  • Recruit and select students with a passion for environmental work
  • Assist in guiding students and parents through required paperwork


Program Evaluation & Reporting

  • Prepare and submit quarterly performance tracking, and financial tracking reports, as well as annual participant tracking reports for partners
  • Collect feedback from students, family members, staff, and client partners to evaluate program effectiveness, and identify areas for improvement
  • Organize and provide photos, quotes, and programmatic descriptions for use in publications, social media, grant applications, and more


Other duties as assigned. 


Requirements: 

  • Experience and ability to mentor high school students and entry-level staff 
  • Knowledge of conservation, land management, or outdoor recreation safety protocols
  • Experience with crisis response (mental health, natural disaster, etc.) 
  • Ability to learn to provide end-to-end financial oversight and performance tracking
  • Willingness to travel a minimum of 2 months or more each year

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop and maintain relationships, foster collaborative team environments, and facilitate conflict resolution 
  • Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Google Suite, Survey Software, Presentation Software, Spreadsheet Software, CRM and HR platforms


Qualifications:

  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Must pass a 4-panel drug screening 
  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum 2 years related experience in outdoor or overnight program implementation. 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, have a clean driving record and be comfortable driving a rental vehicle on rural roads for long distances
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification, or ability to obtain
