Procurement Specialist

Job Summary

Deep Fission is seeking a Procurement Specialist to own and execute the day-to-day procurement operations that keep our engineering, drilling, and construction programs supplied and on schedule. The primary focus of this role is purchase order (PO) issuance and lifecycle management, making sure that services, equipment, and materials get sourced, ordered, tracked, and closed out with precision and accountability. You will also support competitive solicitations, including requests for proposal (RFP) and requests for information (RFI), when higher-value or first-of-a-kind buys call for them.

This is a hands-on role on a team that is still building its playbook. Procurement processes, systems, and supplier networks at Deep Fission are being designed in real time, so you will spend as much energy improving how we buy as you do executing individual transactions. If you want a defined process handed to you, this is not the role. If you want to build one, it is.

Key Responsibilities

• Purchase Order Issuance and Lifecycle Management (Primary)
  • Prepare, issue, and manage purchase orders for services, equipment, and materials across every function that buys.
  • Monitor PO status from issuance through delivery, acceptance, invoicing, and close-out, resolving delays, discrepancies, and scope changes before they hit a project schedule.
  • Administer PO amendments, change orders, and extensions in coordination with project managers and Legal.
  • Execute all POs in compliance with company policy, contract terms, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain clean, auditable procurement records, including approvals, supporting documentation, and close-out files.
• Vendor and Supplier Management
  • Build and sustain working relationships with key suppliers that deliver competitive pricing, reliable delivery, and fast issue resolution.
  • Evaluate and recommend approved vendors for recurring procurement categories based on performance history and project fit.
  • Own supplier onboarding, including documentation collection, insurance verification, and setup in company systems.
  • Track supplier performance and raise recurring quality, delivery, or responsiveness issues to the Senior Director, Procurement.
• Competitive Solicitation Support
  • Support the development and issuance of RFPs and RFIs when competitive sourcing is required for higher-value or novel procurement activities.
  • Coordinate bidder questions, proposal intake, and evaluation logistics with the requesting team.
  • Summarize commercial evaluation results and award recommendations for review.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration and Process Building
  • Partner with engineering, operations, and project management teams to anticipate procurement needs, align on specifications, and hit project schedules.
  • Coordinate with Legal on master service agreements (MSAs), contract terms, indemnity structures, and insurance requirements.
  • Improve procurement templates, workflows, and system configuration as spend volume and complexity grow.
  • Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for internal stakeholders with procurement questions.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of experience in procurement, supply chain management, contract administration, or a related field, including direct hands-on ownership of purchase order processes.
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on industry experience.
• Demonstrated ability to manage the full procurement cycle with a focus on PO issuance through close-out.
• Strong negotiation skills, with experience reviewing and administering purchase orders, MSAs, and commercial terms.
• Proficiency with procure-to-pay platforms and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to run many open transactions at once without losing track of any of them.
• Ability to work independently in a remote-first, cross-functional environment with senior stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel domestically for team offsites, training sessions, and site visits as required, with up to 20% travel anticipated.
• Must be a U.S. person eligible to meet DOE Export Control requirements under 10 CFR 810.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Experience in the oil and gas or nuclear energy sector.
• PMP, CPSM, CPP, or an equivalent professional procurement or project management certification.
• Exposure to nuclear or other regulated-industry procurement compliance requirements.
• Experience supporting engineering services, fabrication, construction, or capital projects.
• Experience with procurement or contract lifecycle management platforms such as Coupa, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or Ariba.
• Commercial or private-sector experience, ideally in a high-growth or newly public company where processes are actively being developed and refined.
