The pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance (pCPA) brings together provincial, territorial, and federal governments for the purpose of increasing and managing access to clinically relevant and cost-effective medicines. Through collective negotiations, the pCPA has realized overall savings as of April 1, 2025) for governments of $3.94 billion annually for brand name drugs and $935 million annually for generic drugs totaling $4.87 billion annually. The pCPA offers a 100% remote (within Canada) work environment.
About the role
Reporting to the Director, Infrastructure and Projects, the Process Automation Specialist is responsible for designing, developing, and deploying scalable business applications and automation solutions using the Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power Pages. As the primary driver of process automation within the Infrastructure and Projects team, this role transforms business requirements into secure, practical, and high-quality technical solutions that streamline workflows, reduce manual processes, and improve operational efficiency.
Working collaboratively with partners across departments, the Process Automation Specialist identifies automation opportunities, develops data-driven solutions and visualizations, and delivers scalable applications that support business operations and continuous improvement.
Specific deliverables and authorities
Workflows Discovery and Solution Design
- Proactively engage with all business units to observe work patterns and identify opportunities to enhance productivity through process transformation and automations.
- Translate front-line operational needs into technical requirements, creating functional logic and data workflows for new solutions.
- Evaluate incoming business automation requests against IT standards to determine technical feasibility, licensing costs, and long-term maintainability before development begins.
- Develop prototypes and "Proof of Concept" solutions to help teams visualize and refine new ways of working in real-time.
Automations and Tools
- Build and deploy high-impact automations using Power Automate to streamline cross-departmental tasks and reduce administrative workload.
- Design custom Power Apps that centralize data entry and provide a structured, user-friendly interface for various business activities.
- Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards that provide immediate visibility into operational performance and support data-driven decision-making.
Collaboration
- Partner with the Process Documentation Specialist to ensure that all automated solutions are reflected in company standards and that technical builds reinforce established organizational logic.
- Work alongside Infrastructure and project specialists to uphold organizational security standards, data integrity, and follow best practices across our Power Platform environment.
- Connect disparate data sources—such as SharePoint, SQL, and Excel—to create a unified and efficient digital ecosystem.
- Act as a technical resource for teams during the adoption of new tools, ensuring smooth transitions and providing the necessary technical guidance for long-term success.
Platform Ownership
- Regularly audit and optimize existing automations to ensure they remain high-performing and continue to meet the evolving needs of the infrastructure and projects team.
- Maintain the integrity of the Power Platform environment by following best practices for data security, naming conventions, and version control.
- Act as Tier 3 technical support for complex Power Platform failures, establishing formal escalation paths from the standard IT Service Desk.
- Lead interactive user demos and training sessions, while maintaining the supporting documentation for all new tools and automations.

Qualifications
Education and experience
- College diploma or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Power Platform Developer Associate (PL-400) or Power Automate RPA Developer Associate (PL-500) is required.
- Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) or Power Platform Fundamentals (PL-900) is considered an asset.
- 3–5 years of experience in IT operations, workflow optimization, or software development, with at least 2 years of hands-on experience with the Microsoft Power Platform.
- At least one year of experience building complex, multi-step cloud flows in Power Automate and developing functional, user-facing apps in Power Apps.
- At least one year of experience designing and maintaining professional-grade dashboards in Power BI that pull from multiple data sources (e.g., SharePoint, SQL, or Excel)
- At least one year of experience working directly with business users to observe and "extract" process steps and requirements in environments where workflows may not yet be formalized.
- At least one year of experience supporting structured data ingestion or automation workflow.
Skills and abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Englishare required.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in French (asset).
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments, building effective relationships with subject matter experts and cross-functional teams.
- Exceptional time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively and work with minimal supervision.
- Strong business and digital acumen.
- Strong proven problem-solving abilities, judgment and tact.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI, and SharePoint.
- Strong understanding of relational databases and data modeling (e.g., Dataverse, SQL) and familiarity with using APIs or Connectors to link different systems.
- Basic knowledge of JavaScript, or Python to extend the capabilities of the Power Platform when "out of the box" solutions reach their limit
- Ability to "read between the lines" and build rapport with team members to understand how they work
- A natural curiosity for fixing broken processes and an "efficiency-first" mindset.
Employment terms
- Temporary job; 18-month contract.
- The salary range for this full-time temporary position, classification level A6, is $89,404 -$126,175. This range reflects the salary for candidates with varying experience levels, job knowledge, and qualifications relevant to the position. Specific offers will be based on individual backgrounds and qualifications.
- This position is part of the Association of Management, Administrative and Professional Crown Employees of Ontario (AMAPCEO) bargaining unit and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the collective agreement.
- The work hours for this position is 36.25 hours per week.
- The pCPA provides a group benefits package for temporary employees from the first day of employment.
- The ideal candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada and can work from any location within Canada.
- This position requires frequent travel in different provinces and territories, including periodic multi-day, overnight trips.
