About the Job

A hands-on principal role for a quality engineer who writes code most weeks and works above the level of a single team, under limited supervision.

Scope: Several teams within one engineering group. You make cross-team projects testable, build the test tooling and data setup other engineers rely on, and drive the move from a legacy centralised test suite to per-domain test frameworks.

Responsibilities

Cross-team Project Quality

• Own the testing of projects that span two or more teams, from working out what needs to be verified and where, through to getting it done.
• Build the test data and environment setup these projects need as reusable tooling that other engineers can run themselves, rather than as manual steps.
• Identify quality risks that fall between teams, and make sure they're covered.
• Drive the migration from our legacy end-to-end suite to per-domain frameworks, making the move cheap enough that teams can migrate their own tests.
• Work with a small group of principal quality engineers who jointly own org-level quality initiatives, prioritised together with the engineering directors.

Hands-On Engineering 

• Write, review, and maintain test code and test framework code.
• Contribute to shared test tooling, including our test data utility and shared test libraries.
• Design and implement tests with teams that don't have a dedicated quality engineer.
• Debug flaky and failing tests to root cause.
• Review specifications against implementations and tests, and catch what a passing suite misses.

AI & Quality 

• Apply secure-by-design principles and data privacy standards.
• Provide a real-time 'Risk Radar' to Directors, focusing on release confidence rather than bug counts.
• Architect and maintain the Automation Frameworks and AI Agents that enable developers to generate test suites.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience required

• Expert in software QA methodologies, tools, and processes.
• Ability to write production-grade code in more than one language.
• Advanced knowledge of relational/NoSQL databases, release pipelines, and monitoring.
• Architectural Literacy: ability to critique technical designs.
• Ability to "Influence Without Authority" regarding long-term quality risks.

Education & Experience 

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Typically 12+ years of relevant experience.

Pay Transparency

SAP Taulia believes that pay transparency contributes to an honest, supportive culture and is a vital part of our commitment to equity. The estimated annualized base salary range for this position is $150,000—$180,000.

This range represents a good-faith estimate of the base salary at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined by a variety of factors, including (but not limited to) the candidate’s specific skills, depth of experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
