Reporting to the VP, US Payer & Reimbursement, this is a critical field-based Market Access role responsible for securing and maintaining optimal product coverage (with commercial, Managed Medicare, Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC)s and Medicaid payers) for uniQure products within the US market. The role requires deep, established relationships among key national and/or regional payors, expertise in coverage, coding, and payment methodologies across commercial and Government payer types.
Key result areas (major duties, accountabilities and responsibilities)
  • Build and maintain deep, trusted relationships with key payer decision-makers, including national and regional health plans, PBMs, government agencies, and integrated delivery networks (IDNs)
  • Lead all pre-approval payor-facing engagements in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain a deep understanding of payer landscapes, competitive dynamics, and evolving healthcare policies to inform business strategies
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, legislative changes, and competitive intelligence, proactively making recommendations to adapt uniQure’s payer engagement strategy as needed
  • Partner closely with MSL counterparts, to ensure high-quality, professional meetings to introduce uniQure in the commercial marketplace
  • Drive insights and recommendations to commercial leadership, influencing company strategy based on payer market intelligence
  • Helps design and establish performance goals and metrics overseeing initial implementation 
  • Partner with payor marketing, field reimbursement and account management team (coordination lead at treatment centers) to support appropriate utilization and maximize market opportunity for uniQure’s commercial products 
  • Develop strategic account business plans for identifying, segmenting, profiling, building, and expanding relationships with key accounts across payer, provider, and targeted pharmacy sectors
Qualifications & Skills:
  • BS/BA degree in life sciences, finance/accounting or closely related field and 12+ years of medical life science industry experience
  • 5+ years of previous national account payer experience with established relationships at GPOs, PBMs and plans are required. Required experience in a rare disease and preferred experience in a gene therapy account management role.
  • Strong existing relationships and access to key decision makers in both payer and provider organizations
  • Proven track record of negotiating access agreements with national and regional payers, PBMs, and government agencies strongly preferred
  • Success in building, managing, and leading within internal medical and commercial teams
  • Very strong negotiating, relationship building, and communication skills
  • Deep understanding of US healthcare reimbursement, pricing strategies, formulary dynamics, and access pathways.
  • Exceptional relationship management skills with proven ability to influence top clinical and business decision makers
  • Strong commercialization and launch experience with cell and gene therapy or high cost buy and bill products
  • Thorough knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks for promotion, industry guidelines and compliance issues
  • Business maturity and with exceptional analytical skills and problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to travel ~50% of the time consistent with field-based, payor facing role
 
Salary Range: $205,000 - $265,000
The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant, relevant years of experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from where they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
