Position Summary

The University of New Mexico Department of Dental Medicine is seeking a highly organized and motivated Medical Education Program Specialist to support its Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Residency Program.

The Department of Dental Medicine is committed to improving access to comprehensive dental care for New Mexico’s underserved, medically complex, and special-needs populations. The AEGD Residency Program provides advanced clinical and educational experiences that prepare dental graduates to deliver comprehensive patient-centered care in clinical, hospital, and community-based settings.

The Medical Education Program Specialist will plan, coordinate, and administer the operational and educational activities of the residency program. This position will work closely with residents, faculty members, program leadership, clinical rotation sites, preceptors, and internal and external partners. The successful candidate will be able to manage complex schedules, maintain accurate records, respond to changing program needs, and support compliance with accreditation and institutional requirements.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate resident recruitment, selection, acceptance, onboarding, and orientation activities.
  • Develop and maintain complex resident clinical rotation, didactic, leave, and on-call schedules.
  • Coordinate internal and external rotation sites, faculty preceptors, guest lecturers, and educational activities.
  • Maintain resident files, evaluations, completion records, and other required program documentation.
  • Track residents’ progress toward successful completion of clinical, educational, and program requirements.
  • Compile, analyze, and report program data in accordance with Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and University requirements.
  • Support accreditation reviews, program evaluations, annual reporting, and ongoing program recertification.
  • Coordinate educational conferences, lectures, journal clubs, presentations, and special program events.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and administrative support to residents, faculty, and program leadership.
  • Serve as a primary liaison regarding residency operations, participant services, and personnel-related matters.
  • Assist with program budgets, funding records, purchasing, and other financial or administrative activities.
  • Develop and improve processes, procedures, resources, and operational practices that support the residency program.
  • Perform additional program-related duties and special projects as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting a medical, dental, graduate medical education, or healthcare education program.
  • Experience coordinating complex clinical, educational, or employee schedules.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards, preferably CODA or another healthcare accreditation organization.
  • Experience with resident or student recruitment, onboarding, evaluations, and records management.
  • Experience collecting data and preparing statistical and narrative reports.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet important deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Experience working effectively with faculty, healthcare providers, residents, students, staff, and external partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic scheduling, evaluation, or records-management systems.
