Title: Managing Chief Counsel — Core Ventures and US Oncology Network Regulatory

Location: Dallas or The Woodlands, TX; Columbus, OH; Atlanta, GA; Fort Myers, FL;

Onsite/Remote/Hybrid: REMOTE

Position Summary

McKesson's General Counsel Organization (GCO) is seeking a Managing Chief Counsel to serve as the principal legal advisor and strategic partner to Core Ventures, the management services organization supporting Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute, and provide regulatory support for The US Oncology Network (Network). This is a broad generalist role that spans transactions, operations, data governance, and healthcare regulation across one of the largest community oncology platforms in the United States.

The role provides end-to-end legal leadership across the Core Ventures operating model: management services agreements and intercompany arrangements, practice integration and post-close structuring, enterprise contracting, and data governance.  On the Network side, the role provides healthcare regulatory guidance, including AKS, Stark, fraud and abuse analysis, CMS and state regulatory requirements, HIPAA and PHI governance, privacy review, and support for Network compliance programs.

We are looking for a lawyer who does more than answer the question in front of them. Every company is at a different point in its use of AI for process improvement, and what matters here is the ability to think differently about how legal work gets delivered and to bring that mindset into the team. The successful candidate will pair excellent legal judgment with a demonstrated record of modernizing playbooks, intake, and workflows so that legal support scales with the business.

Key Responsibilities

Core Ventures

·       Legal oversight of the Core Ventures operating model, including management services agreements, intercompany arrangements, and amendments.

·       Act as a trusted advisor to the Core Ventures executive leadership, preparing and presenting executive and board-level materials supporting major initiatives and significant obligations.

·       Support practice integration and post-close structuring, including asset transfers, physician alignment, and ownership frameworks.

·       Lead the negotiation and execution of complex commercial agreements, including vendor and supplier contracts, strategic partnerships and affiliations, and data services, pharmacy, and technology arrangements.

·       Design and implement contracting governance frameworks covering intake, review, approval, and execution.

·       Act as a trusted advisor to the Core Ventures executive leadership, preparing and presenting executive and board-level materials supporting major initiatives and significant obligations.

Network Regulatory and Compliance Partnership

·       Advise on healthcare regulatory frameworks including anti-kickback, fraud and abuse laws, CMS requirements, and state regulations affecting community oncology practices.

·       Partner with business unit and enterprise compliance to advance compliance programs and initiatives.

·       Advise on regulatory questions arising from patient communications and care model programs, including social determinants of health initiatives under the Enhancing Oncology Model.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop attorneys and legal specialists supporting CV and allocate work so that matters are handled at the right level.
  • Drive continuous improvement in intake, triage, and workflow so that legal support scales with CV's growth.

Legal Operations and Transformative Thinking

·       Partner cross-functionally with privacy, compliance, security, finance, procurement, IT, and operations to support timely, informed decision-making and streamlined execution.

·       Lead continuous improvement across legal operations, including utilizing AI-enabled and other technology-enabled tools, intake and triage contracting models, standardized templates and playbooks, and workflow redesign, so that legal support scales without a proportional increase in headcount.

What Success Looks Like in This Role

·       Matters advance efficiently and consistently, with sound judgment and a digital-first, continuous-improvement mindset, and with novel, high-risk, or precedent-setting issues surfaced proactively to the Managing Principal Counsel and Assistant General Counsel.

·       Business partners across Core Ventures and USON experience Legal as customer-first and outcomes-oriented: guidance is practical, risk is clearly framed, and collaboration reduces friction rather than adding it.

·       Regulatory and compliance risk is identified early and managed to resolution, and contracting processes, templates, playbooks, and workflows are modernized and scaled, with measurable improvement in cycle time, quality, consistency, and stakeholder experience.

Minimum Qualifications

·       Juris Doctor from an accredited law

school, plus typically 12 or more years of relevant legal experience; active membership in good standing of at least one state bar.

·       Substantial healthcare regulatory experience, including fraud and abuse laws, Stark, Anti-Kickback, HIPAA, and state corporate practice of medicine and licensure frameworks.

·       Experience leading or developing a legal team, including attorneys and legal support professionals.

·       Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial and healthcare services agreements.

·       Mature professional judgment in navigating legal and business considerations, including the ability to assess risk, exercise discretion, and escalate thoughtfully.

·       Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain risk and recommended paths forward in clear, business-focused terms to executives and clinicians.

Preferred Qualifications

·       Experience supporting physician practices, management services organizations, or other regulated healthcare services businesses.

·       Experience advising on value-based care and CMS innovation models, including the Enhancing Oncology Model or similar programs.

·       Demonstrated ability to lead or contribute to process improvement initiatives, such as playbooks, templates, workflow redesign, contract lifecycle management, or other legal technology solutions.

·       Prior in-house experience in a large, matrixed organization.

Education and Experience

·       Juris Doctor plus typically 12 or more years of relevant legal experience, including significant in-house or healthcare regulatory practice.

·       People leadership experience preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
