LGMI Project Manager

The New Mexico Land Grant Council is looking for a Project Manager to join the team. The project manager will be responsible for coordinating and supporting multiple, smaller-scale projects and initiatives including: development of comprehensive plans and implementation of community and economic development projects for eligible land grant-mercedes; public policy review, analysis and development. Evaluates projects for conformance to established goals and objectives of the New Mexico Land Grant Council and UNM Land Grant-Merced Institute. Responsible for overall success of assigned projects through internal and external resource identification, coordination, and mobilization. This is a term position one year from date of hire, it has the ability to be renewed on a year-by-year basis as funding allows.

• Duties and Responsibilities
  Coordinates and supports smaller-scale, multifaceted projects of intermediate complexity including community and economic development projects in land grant-merced communities.
• Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning, comprehensive plans, zoning ordinances and other management or project specific plans, in coordination with land grant-merced boards of trustees, communities and other relevant partners; may develop and/or implement, natural resources conservation, and community and economic development projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals set by the New Mexico Land Grant Council, the Land Grant-Merced Institute and land grant-mercedes.
• Administers, oversees, and coordinates the activities of a range of smaller scale operating and support projects in land grant-mercedes, as assigned.
• Gathers facts, research issues, analyzes potential solutions, compares alternatives in terms of cost, time, and availability of resources, and recommends a course of action relating to development of community planning documents, community and economic development projects, natural resources management, and public policy matters relating to land grant-mercedes. Includes:
• Researches, evaluates, and analyzes relevant/related business requirements and processes, including collection and analysis of data, trends and applicable laws for land grant-merced communities, census data, relevant local, state and federal plans, and applicable controlling laws and statutes; generates reports as requested.
• Develops and prepares feasibility studies, supportive of land grant-merced comprehensive plans, project goals and objectives, critical physical and environmental constraints, local conditions and needs.
• Assists land grant-mercedes with implementation of community and economic development and natural resources management projects, including assistance with: identifying and applying for project funding; administering and implementing fund projects; monitoring project status and resource utilization and recommends changes to improve effectiveness.
• Supports Land Grant-Merced Institute and New Mexico Land Grant Council as needed, including review, analysis and drafting of policies relating to land grant-mercedes.
• Coordinates and tracks project- budgets as assigned.
• Participates in the development, coordination, and implementation of changes and/or improvements to management systems and procedures for the Land Grant-Merced Institute.
• May represent UNM to various institutional departments and divisions as well as externally to local and national organizations, and the general public
• Confers with peers internally and at other institutions, agencies and partners to implement and facilitate community and economic development projects for the New Mexico Land Grant Council and individual land grant-mercedes.
• Applies knowledge of plan development and project management to a wide variety of special and complex projects and policy studies as assigned and maintains special data pertinent to land grant-mercedes.
• May supervise the work of others.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

• Master’s degree in Community Planning or related field
  
• Demonstrated experience working with traditional communities in New Mexico, including land grants, acequias, Pueblos/Tribes.
  
• Demonstrated experience working on legislative and administrative public policy matters in New Mexico.
• A completed portfolio list and writing sample that closely align with land grants, acequias and/or tribal communities, as relevant to this position.
