The HRBP will serve as a primary advisor for complex employee relations, conducting workplace investigations and ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws. They will partner with operational leaders to provide coaching on performance management, risk mitigation, and leadership effectiveness.

Overview

At Smile Brands, we’re looking for a seasoned Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to support our multi-state, multi-site dental organization. This role will partner closely with operational leaders to support a market of 1,000+ employees, serving as a trusted advisor on complex employee relations, workplace investigations, employment law, compliance, and workforce matters.

This is a highly focused Employee Relations and compliance role. Unlike traditional HRBP positions that may include significant recruiting, employee engagement, culture, or general HR administration, this role will spend the majority of its time managing complex employee relations matters, conducting investigations, assessing employment-related risk, and coaching leaders through challenging employee situations.

The ideal candidate is an experienced HR professional who is comfortable handling sensitive and complex matters independently, has strong knowledge of employment law and multi-state compliance, and can confidently advise and influence leaders at all levels.

This position is remote with occasional travel. The ideal candidate will reside within the Eastern Time Zone to align with the business hours of the supported markets.

Schedule (days/hours)

Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm EST

  • Independently conduct and document workplace investigations involving harassment, discrimination, retaliation, misconduct, policy violations, workplace conflict, ethics concerns, and employee complaints.
  • Interview employees, leaders, and witnesses; assess findings and provide practical recommendations for resolution and corrective action.
  • Coach leaders through performance management, progressive discipline, behavioral concerns, and termination decisions.

  • Provide guidance to leaders on federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Advise on matters involving FMLA, ADA, PWFA, accommodations, leave, wage and hour requirements, and other employment-related regulations.
  • Interpret and help ensure consistent application of company policies and practices across supported markets.
  • Partner with Legal and Compliance on investigations, employment-related claims, agency inquiries, litigation matters, and other areas of risk.
  • Help identify and mitigate employment-related risk before issues escalate.

Leadership Partnership

  • Build strong partnerships with Regional Directors, Operations Leaders, Vice Presidents, and other business leaders.
  • Coach leaders on employee relations, conflict resolution, performance management, accountability, and leadership effectiveness.
  • Provide practical, business-focused recommendations that balance employee needs, compliance requirements, and operational objectives.
  • Influence and guide leaders through difficult and sometimes high-risk employee decisions.

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with significant experience in Employee Relations and workplace investigations.
  • Hands-on experience managing complex employee relations matters, including performance management, corrective action, accommodations, leave, and terminations.
  • Experience supporting a workforce of 800+ employees in a multi-site or multi-state environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR compliance requirements.
  • Experience advising leaders on performance management, corrective action, accommodations, leave, and terminations.
  • Strong judgment and ability to assess and mitigate employment-related risk.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with employees through executive leadership.
