About the Role
We're looking for a software developer who enjoys building things that solve real business problems β and who cares about how those things run once they're live.
This is a broad role in a small engineering organization. You'll build internal and customer-facing applications, prototype new ideas, and work close to the infrastructure those applications run on. If you like moving between product work and the systems side rather than staying in one lane, this role is designed for you.
Our stack is deliberately pragmatic rather than uniform: TypeScript and React on the frontend, with Scala, Python, Node.js, and Go across various services, all running on AWS. We care more about your engineering fundamentals than the specific languages on your resume β strong developers pick up a new stack quickly, and we'll give you the time to do it.
π Fully remote β must be available to work US time zones (EST minimum)
What You'll Do
Product & Application Development
Build and maintain modern web applications, from UI through to API and data layer.
Develop new product features and improve existing applications.
Integrate third-party APIs and external services.
Build internal tools and automations that remove manual work from business processes.
Translate business requirements into reliable, maintainable software.
Troubleshoot issues and improve application performance and reliability.
Participate in code reviews and help raise the bar on engineering practices.
Infrastructure & Operations
Infrastructure work is shared across a small team rather than siloed, so we're looking for someone who can contribute here credibly. How much of it lands with you will depend on your strengths and where the team needs help β but you should be comfortable with all of it.
Work with AWS infrastructure across production and non-production environments (EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudFront, Route 53).
Contribute to infrastructure defined as code using Terraform or CloudFormation.
Help maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments, and improve the workflows around environments, releases, and debugging.
Contribute to monitoring, alerting, logging, and tracing β including dashboards and alerts that are actually actionable.
Take part in investigating production issues, root-cause analysis, and the follow-up fixes that prevent repeats.
Apply sound security practices: least-privilege IAM, network security, encryption, secrets management, and secure configuration.
Keep an eye on AWS spend β right-sizing, autoscaling, and retiring what isn't being used.
Required Qualifications
Several years building and shipping production web applications end to end.
Strong programming fundamentals in a modern typed or backend language, and the ability to become productive in a new one quickly.
Solid frontend skills: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and experience with a modern component framework (React or equivalent).
Hands-on experience running applications on AWS or a comparable cloud platform.
Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, and infrastructure as code.
Comfort operating what you build β debugging production issues, reading logs and metrics, and improving reliability over time.
Experience with SQL and relational databases.
Experience integrating REST APIs and third-party services.
Git and pull-request-based collaboration.
Strong analytical skills and clear written and verbal communication.
Nice to Have
TypeScript.
Scala, Python, Go, or Node.js.
Terraform specifically, and container orchestration (ECS, EKS, or Kubernetes).
Observability tooling β metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting platforms.
Experience building applications on top of AI services or LLM APIs.
Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code.
Exposure to SOC 2 or similar compliance work.
Experience building automation or workflow tooling.
How You Work
You take initiative, take ownership, and follow work through to completion without needing to be chased.
You're resourceful and enjoy practical technical problems, including the unglamorous ones.
You pick up new technologies quickly and apply them sensibly.
You communicate clearly β progress, blockers, and technical decisions β and collaborate well.
You ship high-quality, practical solutions rather than over-engineering.
You have a product mindset and care whether the software actually creates impact.
What We Offer:
Direct impact: the products and systems you build are the ones the business runs on.
End-to-end ownership of meaningful projects, from idea through release and operation.
Unusual breadth for one role β product engineering and the infrastructure underneath it.
A collaborative environment focused on learning and continuous improvement.
All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
