The New Products FP&A Analyst will support financial planning, business case development, investment evaluation, forecasting, and performance tracking for new product and innovation initiatives.
This role helps build the financial architecture supporting new products from concept through development, commercialization, launch, and post-launch scale-up. It combines strategic finance, investment analysis, portfolio management, forecasting, and hands-on business partnership.
This is a newly created, high-visibility role at the intersection of Finance, Product, Commercial, Marketing, and Supply Chain, and collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure new product investments are financially sound, supported by robust assumptions, appropriately resourced, and tracked rigorously
Major Duties & Responsibilities
New Product Business Case Development & Investment Analysis
- Partner with Product, Commercial, Marketing, Business Intelligence and Operations teams to build robust business cases for new product and innovation initiatives.
- Translate market opportunity, customer adoption, pricing, channel strategy, product positioning, launch timing, and cost assumptions into integrated revenue, margin, EBITDA, cash flow, and investment models.
- Build financial scenario models evaluating key variables: pricing, channel strategy, volume ramp curves, cost structure, and launch timing. Sensitize assumptions and quantify upside and downside risk.
- Support leadership in prioritizing, accelerating, deferring, redesigning, or stopping initiatives based on strategic fit, financial attractiveness, risk, and portfolio balance.
- Ensure new-product investment decisions are integrated with the company’s broader growth strategy, financial targets, and enterprise resource-allocation process.
New Product Financial Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting
- Support the annual budget, rolling forecast, and long-range plan for the New Products portfolio. Report and explain changes versus prior forecast and budget.
- Partner with functional stakeholders to convert approved business cases into phased budgets, and forecast updates as initiatives progress or assumptions change.
- Proactively identify emerging risks and opportunities, and quantify their financial implications.
- Help ensure ERP and EPM planning systems (e.g., JD Edwards, Hyperion, Hubble) are properly configured to capture, track, and report New Products financial data accurately.
Performance Management & Analysis
- Support the development and maintenance of a consistent new product performance framework linking approved business cases to actual financial outcomes.
- Develop and maintain a financial scorecard / KPI dashboard tracking actual performance against the original business case, budgets and forecasts.
- Partner with Accounting & Controllership to review actuals once delivered, and perform variance analysis between actuals, forecast, budget, and approved business cases.
- Support post-launch and post-investment look-back reviews to assess performance against commitments, identify lessons learned, and use findings to improve the accuracy and discipline of future business cases and investment decisions.
Business Partnership & Support
- Serve as a key FP&A partner to the New Products organization, providing financial insight and analysis to support product strategy, roadmap, and new product investment decisions.
- Build strong partnerships with functional stakeholders, and support engagement with senior leadership as needed.
- Participate in leadership reviews, and help prepare financial models, performance summaries, and narrative for senior leadership. Support the preparation of financial materials for executive and Board-level reviews.
- Partner closely with the broader FP&A team and Accounting & Controllership to keep New Products reporting consistent with enterprise financial processes.
Key Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or related discipline. Master’s degree, MBA or professional finance qualification is advantageous.
- Typically 3-5 years of progressive experience in FP&A, strategic finance, corporate finance, commercial finance, or investment analysis, ideally including exposure to new product introductions, innovation, or growth initiatives.
- Advanced excel financial modelling, scenario analysis, forecasting, and analytical problem-solving capabilities. Demonstrated experience building business cases, financial models and investment evaluations (NPV, IRR, payback, sensitivity analysis) for new initiatives under conditions of limited historical data and high uncertainty.
- Strong understanding of product and commercial economics, including pricing, volume ramp, margin, investment phasing, working capital and cash flow implications.
- Experience partnering with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
- Experience with ERP and EPM planning systems (e.g., JD Edwards, Hyperion, Hubble or similar platforms) and reporting tools.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders and constructively challenge assumptions.
- Comfortable operating independently in a newly established function, transformation environment, and situations characterized by ambiguity, change, and competing priorities.
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities, and to support occasional off-hours requirements when business needs demand.
