Financial Aid Services (FAS)
Location: Remote (Travel as Needed)
Position Type: Full-Time, Part-Time, or Project-Based Consulting Opportunities Available
Help Institutions Modernize Financial Aid Operations
Financial Aid Services (FAS) is seeking experienced higher education technology professionals to partner with colleges and universities nationwide. This opportunity is ideal for individuals with deep expertise in student information systems (SIS), financial aid management systems (FAMS), financial aid operations, systems administration, implementation, or consulting who are passionate about helping institutions improve efficiency, compliance, and student outcomes.
As a trusted advisor, you will work directly with institutional leaders, financial aid professionals, and technical teams to optimize systems, modernize processes, solve complex challenges, and support the evolving needs of higher education.
About the Opportunity
Higher education institutions continue to navigate increasing regulatory complexity, staffing challenges, system modernization efforts, and growing expectations for service delivery. As a Financial Aid Systems Consultant, you will help institutions maximize the effectiveness of the technologies that support financial aid administration and the broader student lifecycle.
This role combines technical expertise, strategic thinking, and client partnership. You'll work across multiple institutions, helping clients implement practical solutions that improve operations, enhance compliance, and create better experiences for students and staff.
What You'll Do
- Advise colleges and universities on financial aid system configuration, optimization, and integration strategies.
- Provide functional leadership for financial aid technology workflows, reporting processes, and data exchanges.
- Translate regulatory and operational requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Analyze, diagnose, and resolve system, workflow, and data-related challenges.
- Identify opportunities to automate processes, reduce manual effort, and improve operational efficiency.
- Support system implementations, upgrades, testing, validation, and modernization initiatives.
- Improve data controls, reconciliations, reporting capabilities, and overall system effectiveness.
- Develop documentation, playbooks, recommendations, and best-practice guidance tailored to institutional needs.
- Serve as a trusted technical partner to financial aid offices, information technology teams, enrollment leaders, and executive stakeholders.
This Opportunity May Be Ideal If You:
- Have served as a Financial Aid Systems Administrator, Functional Analyst, Director of Financial Aid Technology, ERP Lead, SIS Administrator, IT Analyst, Solutions Consultant, or similar role.
- Enjoy solving complex system and operational challenges.
- Like bridging the gap between technical teams and functional users.
- Have a passion for helping institutions use technology more effectively.
- Enjoy consulting, advising, and building relationships across diverse campus environments.
- Want to influence solutions across multiple institutions rather than supporting a single campus.
- Are energized by improving the student experience through better systems and processes.
Preferred Background
- Significant experience with one or more higher education enterprise systems, including Banner, PeopleSoft, Workday, PowerFAIDS, Colleague, or comparable platforms.
- Strong understanding of financial aid operations and the systems that support compliance and student services.
- Experience with system configuration, implementation, integration, testing, and optimization.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to assess current-state processes and recommend future-state improvements.
- Experience communicating technical concepts to functional staff, institutional leaders, and executive stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational, project management, and client relationship skills.
- Experience working in higher education technology, financial aid administration, ERP environments, consulting, or systems implementation projects.
What Makes Consulting Different?
Rather than focusing on a single institution, you'll have the opportunity to:
- Partner with a variety of colleges and universities facing unique operational and technology challenges.
- Work across diverse platforms, business processes, and institutional environments.
- Influence technology strategy and operational improvements at a broader scale.
- Share innovative solutions and best practices across the higher education community.
- Help institutions modernize operations while supporting compliance, efficiency, and student success.
We Welcome Experienced Professionals at Different Career Stages
This opportunity may be especially appealing to professionals who:
- Are transitioning from campus-based technology or financial aid leadership into consulting.
- Have recently retired from higher education and want to remain engaged in meaningful work.
- Are looking for flexible project-based or part-time opportunities.
- Want to continue contributing their expertise to colleges and universities without being tied to a single institution.
