Since launching in 2017, it has built a significant digital audience in a highly competitive market. We are entering the next stage of growth: sharpening our editorial identity, creating more distinctive journalism and franchises, expanding audience reach and loyalty, and growing across search, social and emerging distribution channels.


The Opportunity

We are looking for an ambitious, entrepreneurial Editor to lead that next phase. This is an outstanding opportunity for a high-performing Deputy Editor, Senior Content Editor, News Editor, Audience Editor, Senior Journalist or Content Lead who is ready to run a digital publication. This is not simply an operational editing role. The successful candidate will define what The Blast should become, develop the editorial strategy to get there, and lead the team in delivering it. You will combine excellent news judgement with a deep understanding of digital audiences, data, search, social platforms and the pace of entertainment journalism.


The Role

Reporting to senior management, the Editor will own the editorial direction, daily performance and longer-term growth strategy for The Blast. Key responsibilities include:


●Develop and implement an editorial and content strategy that grows audience,engagement, reach, loyalty and brand recognition.

●Establish a distinctive editorial voice and identify the stories, formats, franchises andverticals that The Blast can own.

●Lead the daily news agenda, ensuring fast, intelligent coverage of breaking celebrity andentertainment stories.

●Build a balanced content mix across breaking news, exclusives, original reporting,interviews, features, viral and social-led stories, and evergreen opportunities.

●Increase the proportion and impact of original journalism through repeatable formats,exclusives and editorial franchises.

●Use audience data and competitive intelligence to improve commissioning, headlines,story selection, publishing cadence and distribution.

●Develop acquisition plans across Search, Discover, social media, referrals, newsletters,direct traffic and emerging platforms.

●Manage, motivate and develop writers and contributors; set clear standards for accuracy,sourcing, quality, speed, tone and performance.

●Work closely with SEO, audience development, social, commercial and productcolleagues so editorial growth supports the wider business.

●Set KPIs, report regularly on performance and test new formats, platforms and audiencepropositions.


The Person

We are interested in candidates with strong digital publishing experience, ideally in entertainment, celebrity, lifestyle, popular culture, viral content or another high-volume consumer environment. You will have excellent editorial judgement, a strong instinct for what audiences will read and share, and the confidence to bring new ideas into a busy newsroom.


You should be able to demonstrate:


●A track record of developing or materially contributing to successful content andaudience strategies.

●Evidence that your editorial decisions have delivered measurable gains in traffic,engagement, search visibility, social reach, returning readership or brand recognition.

●Strong working knowledge of SEO, Google Discover, social distribution, analytics andthe changing digital publishing landscape.

●Experience commissioning and editing writers, alongside excellent headline-writing andstory-packaging skills.

●The ability to turn data into clear editorial decisions without losing creativity, editorialstandards or audience instinct.

●A practical interest in using AI and emerging technology to improve workflows andaudience intelligence, with appropriate editorial oversight.

●Energy, resilience, accountability and a genuine desire to build a distinctiveentertainment brand.
