Position Summary

Galvanize USA is seeking a Director of People and Culture. In our eighth year and as we cross the 40-employee mark, we're looking for a solutions-oriented leader who can help our organization run well day to day, enforcing and maintaining the people & culture systems already in place while spotting the gaps that need new ones. This person brings a positive, creative energy and stays calm under pressure. The best candidate will turn to data to understand opportunities for improvement and will approach staff with a coaching mentality that helps build a healthy, high-functioning workplace.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a member of the leadership team, strengthening our responsive human resources strategy with strong feedback loops for hiring, engaging, developing, and retaining talent
  • Support people managers and optimize our performance management process to drive accountability and help team members to feel empowered, trusted, and effective in their roles
  • Propose, design, and lead measurable strategic initiatives to address gaps with a focus on our values of innovation, equity, community, teamwork, continuous learning, and compassion & care
  • Proactively lead the organization through change, with deep understanding of how to create buy-in and drive adoption of new processes
  • Craft learning and development programs that empower and inspire staff members to reach goals
  • Deliver manager and organization-wide trainings
  • Coach and mentor teammates to foster a culture of empathy, deep listening, and feedback to connect more deeply across differences
  • Design clear systems for thoughtful growth by supporting hiring managers through the entire employee lifecycle from recruitment to offboarding
  • Create meaningful moments to connect through the design of team retreats, all-team meetings, and other initiatives
  • Support team members in understanding and maximizing their benefits, including leave and reintegration planning for Galvanize’s sabbatical program
  • Build and maintain user-friendly systems that organize policies, internal communications, and documentation
  • Manage comprehensive compensation reviews with an outside vendor every 2-3 years
  • Lead the design, distribution and analysis of regular pulse, annual engagement and other surveys, summarizing results for leadership and staff, tracking trends over time.
  • Monitor and analyze org-wide people trends surfacing findings and flagging areas that need leadership attention
  • Act as day-to-day liaison with Hopewell Fund’s HR team on technical, administrative, and employee relations needs, ensuring smooth coordination between the organization and the fiscal sponsor. 
  • Manage, support, and develop direct reports, contractors, and vendors, including setting clear expectations, providing feedback and coaching, and ensuring effective collaboration and accountability, when applicable.
  • All employees of Hopewell Fund are required to complete timesheets every two weeks
  • Perform other duties as needed

Required Qualifications and Experience: 

  • A strong track record of developing values-driven people and culture strategies with measurable outcomes
  • Clear examples of coaching teammates to foster a culture of inclusion, trust, and accountability in a remote-first environment
  • A proactive and data-driven approach for developing processes that inspire high performance, deep collaboration, and retention
  • Demonstrated experience rolling out user-friendly systems effectively, with the ability to clearly articulate processes and drive adoption across the team
  • Deep understanding of how to craft and maintain thoughtful systems for the entire employee lifecycle, from recruitment to offboarding
  • Experience leading performance management processes that cultivate a culture of continuous learning, productivity and growth
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize and remove barriers to implementation
  • Commitment to ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion is at the heart of both our people operations strategy and program delivery
  • Experience building adaptable systems and navigating change successfully as an organization grows

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to travel as needed (typically, 2-4 times/year)
  • Experience designing or coordinating engaging team retreats or all-staff events
  • Familiarity with Leapsome or other people engagement platforms
  • Familiarity with JazzHR or other applicant tracking systems

Compensation & Benefits

The starting salary range for this position is $128,000-$132,000. Placement within this band will be determined based on years of prior experience and relevant skills.  To adhere to an internal compensation policy, offers to new hires are non-negotiable. 

Galvanize USA also offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their families). Employees are able to enroll in the 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions. Employees are also eligible for pre-tax transportation benefits. Employees will receive 120 hours of vacation time, 80 hours of health leave, up to 2 days of casual leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave annually. Employees will also receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are eligible for 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave after 90 days of employment
