Director, Digital Product Portfolio Enablement

What you will do

In this vital role you will help drive the evolution of product management at Amgen by strengthening how digital product strategy, business outcomes, portfolio priorities, governance, and investment decisions connect across the enterprise. Reporting to the Senior Director, Product Management Portfolio Enablement and Governance, this leader will operate at the nexus of Business, Product Management, Technology, and Finance, helping leaders across those functions and the enterprise align the broader digital product strategy with its intended outcomes.

This role will serve as a product management best-practices expert, bringing the rigor, facilitation, structured problem solving, portfolio management, and executive communication needed to design and continuously improve the enterprise forums and operating rhythms through which senior Digital Product portfolio leaders engage with business leadership to align and prioritize. The Director will help shape clear narratives, frame strategic choices, surface trade-offs, and prepare for high-value discussions with senior executives.

The Director will primarily lead the design and effective execution of Technology Portfolio Reviews, the highest-level forums where senior Digital Product portfolio leaders engage with SVPs, EVPs, and other enterprise executives on functional digital strategy, portfolio choices, investment priorities, business outcomes, and value realization. The role will also ensure that Monthly Business Reviews, Quarterly Business Reviews, and related product operating rhythms across product teams and product groups are executed consistently and in alignment with the Digital Product Operating Model (DPOM).

Responsibilities:

Technology Portfolio Reviews and Executive Product Forums

• Lead the design, preparation, facilitation, and continuous improvement of Technology Portfolio Reviews, the highest-level product and portfolio forums for SVP, EVP, and other enterprise executive engagement.
• Help senior Digital Product portfolio leaders articulate a coherent functional digital strategy across business outcomes, technology direction, investment priorities, AI and data opportunities, risks, dependencies, and value realization.
• Establish clear expectations for forum structure, storyline, evidence, decision points, trade-offs, and follow-through so executive discussions are oriented toward choices and measurable outcomes rather than status reporting.
• Partner with portfolio leaders to strengthen executive narratives and leadership-ready materials, including the strategic choices, supporting evidence, and decisions required.
• Assess the effectiveness of Technology Portfolio Reviews and evolve the cadence and content as product management maturity grows.

MBR, QBR, and Product Operating Rhythms

• Establish and continuously improve standards for Monthly Business Reviews, Quarterly Business Reviews, and related product operating rhythms across Digital Product Management.
• Ensure MBRs and QBRs are executed consistently across product teams and product groups and remain aligned with the Digital Product Operating Model Hub.
• Define the appropriate product management rigor for recurring reviews, including outcomes, strategy, roadmaps, OKRs, KPIs, priorities, risks, investment choices, and value realization.
• Create clear linkage between team product group and product portfolio MBR/QBR cadences and the senior executive-level Technology Portfolio Reviews used for senior executive alignment and decision-making.

Product Management Outcomes Journey and Governance

• Help define and evolve Amgen’s Product Management Outcomes Journey, connecting business strategy and user needs to product strategy, prioritization, investment, execution, measurement, and value realization.
• Evaluate and recommend improvements to governance, decision rights, and escalation approaches that enable effective and timely digital product and portfolio decisions.
• Strengthen prioritization practices by helping leaders assess opportunities based on strategic alignment, business and user value, feasibility, risk, investment requirements, and expected outcomes.
• Identify recurring barriers to outcome-driven product management and work with Product Management Hub leadership and enterprise partners to address them.
• ·Use insights from Technology Portfolio Reviews, MBRs, QBRs, and leadership interactions to inform the continued evolution of the Digital Product Operating Model.

AI-Enabled Executive and Portfolio Preparation

• Identify and implement opportunities to use generative AI, coding agents, automation, and integrated data workflows to improve the speed, quality, and consistency of portfolio and executive review preparation.
• Automate recurring preparation activities such as data aggregation, synthesis of performance information, identification of trends and risks, narrative drafting, and presentation development.
• Partner with Technology, AI, Data, and Product Operations teams to improve access to reliable product, portfolio, financial, and performance information used in leadership forums.
• Establish appropriate human review and quality controls so AI-assisted materials are accurate, trusted, and appropriate for executive decision-making.

Enterprise Partnership and Executive Facilitation

• Act as a connector across Product Management, business leadership, Finance, the Results Delivery Office, Technology Transformation, the broader Technology organization, AI and Data, and other enterprise stakeholders.
• Partner with Finance to strengthen the connection between product strategy, portfolio priorities, investment planning, financial decision-making, and value realization.
• Partner with the Results Delivery Office and Technology Transformation to align product and portfolio outcomes with enterprise priorities, performance mechanisms, and broader technology transformation.
• Serve as a trusted advisor and facilitator to digital product leaders, bringing structured problem solving, product management expertise, and clear decision framing to complex cross-functional discussions.
• Influence across organizational boundaries without formal authority and translate recurring insights into improved Digital Product Operating Model standards, guidance, measurement, and enablement.

What we expect of you

The Product Management leader we seek combines deep product management expertise, enterprise strategic thinking, structured problem solving, executive-level communication, and the ability to navigate effectively across Product Management, business, Finance, Technology, AI and Data, and transformation leadership.

Basic Qualifications:

• Doctorate degree and 4 years of experience in Digital Product Management, Product Operations, Digital Transformation, or related management consulting experience.

OR

• Master’s degree and 8 years of experience in Digital Product Management, Product Operations, Digital Transformation, or related management consulting experience.

OR

• Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of experience in Digital Product Management, Product Operations, Digital Transformation, or related management consulting experience.

In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have at least 4 years’ experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources.  Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above

Preferred Qualifications:

• 6+ years of progressive experience across digital product management, digital product strategy, portfolio management, digital transformation, management consulting, or related disciplines.
• 3+ years of management consulting experience, ideally focused on digital transformation at a top-tier strategy consulting organization.
• Experience designing, scaling, or operationalizing product operating models in large, complex organizations.
• Strong understanding of digital product management practices, including product strategy, roadmaps, OKRs, KPIs, prioritization, portfolio planning, and value measurement.
• Experience designing, preparing, facilitating, and continuously improving rigorous product governance sessions, portfolio reviews, or executive operating cadences in large high-tech or product-led companies strongly preferred.
• Exceptional executive presentation, storytelling, and facilitation skills, including experience developing and presenting decision-oriented materials for SVP, EVP, C-suite, or equivalent leadership audiences.
• Strong structured problem-solving skills, including the ability to frame ambiguous problems, synthesize quantitative and qualitative information, and translate analysis into clear recommendations and choices.
• Strong cross-functional leadership skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders across business, technology, finance, governance, agile, architecture, and change management teams.  
• Experience applying generative AI, automation, coding agents, analytics, or workflow tools to improve executive reporting, portfolio reviews, strategic planning, or decision-support processes is highly desirable.
• Experience in healthcare, biotechnology, or other regulated industries preferred; candidates from high-tech, digital, consulting, financial services, consumer, or other product-led organizations are also encouraged to apply.
• Comfort operating in ambiguity and building new capabilities where standards, processes, and operating rhythms are still being defined. 
• Demonstrated leadership experience influencing complex enterprise cross-functional initiatives, executive stakeholders, product portfolios, or enterprise transformation efforts.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
