- Develop and maintain analytical frameworks to evaluate portfolio performance across credit grades, products, vendors, channels, industries, ticket sizes and vintages.
- Monitor delinquency, defaults, losses, recoveries and other leading indicators of credit performance.
- Identify emerging trends, concentrations and areas of portfolio deterioration or opportunity.
- Develop recurring portfolio reporting that moves the organization from ad hoc analysis toward systematic risk monitoring.
- Perform deep-dive analyses to understand drivers of portfolio performance and recommend appropriate actions.
Scorecards & Credit Policy
- Support the development, redevelopment and ongoing monitoring of credit scorecards and decision strategies.
- Evaluate scorecard performance, including rank ordering, calibration, population stability and performance by score band.
- Analyze approval, conversion and booking funnels to identify opportunities to expand or modify the credit box while maintaining appropriate economics.
- Evaluate credit-policy rules, cutoffs and exceptions to determine whether they continue to add value.
- Develop champion/challenger analyses and other frameworks for testing potential scorecard and policy changes.
- Establish repeatable scorecard-monitoring and governance processes.
Manual Underwriting & Decision Effectiveness
- Analyze manually reviewed applications and overrides to determine where human intervention improves credit decisions and where decisions could be automated.
- Develop reporting around manual-review reasons, approval outcomes, subsequent credit performance and incremental profitability.
- Identify opportunities to simplify underwriting processes, improve turnaround times and reduce unnecessary manual intervention.
Pricing, Product & Profitability Analytics
- Evaluate risk-adjusted economics across products, credit grades, vendors and customer segments.
- Partner with leadership to evaluate the interaction among pricing, yield, approval rates, expected losses and overall profitability.
- Support the evolution from managing primarily to origination volume or credit losses toward maximizing risk-adjusted profit dollars.
- Analyze existing programs and products to identify opportunities for modification, expansion or repricing.
- Support development and evaluation of new financing products and credit strategies.
- Conduct targeted analyses on strategic questions such as Same-as-Cash economics, vendor profitability, credit-grade performance and conversion opportunities.
Vendor & Channel Analytics
- Develop analytical frameworks for measuring vendor performance beyond origination volume.
- Evaluate approval rates, conversion, credit mix, pricing, losses and profitability by vendor and channel.
- Identify vendors or segments where low conversion may represent an opportunity for changes in credit policy, pricing or process.
- Develop recurring vendor risk and profitability monitoring to support commercial and risk-management decisions.
CECL & Reserve Analytics
- Support the continued development and enhancement of TimePayment's CECL methodology and reserve process.
- Own significant portions of the underlying analytical production, including portfolio segmentation, PD/EAD/LGD analysis, vintage performance, loss-emergence analysis and model back-testing.
- Develop repeatable and controlled processes for quarterly reserve production.
- Perform data-quality checks, reconciliations and analytical validation of model outputs.
- Maintain clear documentation of methodologies, assumptions, model changes and results.
- Support management, auditor and investor review of reserve methodologies and portfolio performance.
Data & Analytical Infrastructure
- Help develop and maintain a reliable lease-level analytical dataset that serves as a common foundation for credit, CECL, pricing, vendor and product analytics.
- Improve the repeatability and efficiency of analytical processes currently dependent on manual analysis.
- Partner with technology and data resources to improve data availability, definitions and quality.
- Create tools and reporting that allow recurring questions to be answered efficiently without rebuilding analyses from scratch.
- Establish appropriate controls, documentation and version management around critical analytical processes.
What Success Looks Like
Over the first 12–18 months, the Director will help the Credit Risk function:
- Establish reliable, recurring portfolio and vintage monitoring.
- Institutionalize scorecard performance monitoring and governance.
- Complete and operationalize an enhanced CECL and reserve process.
- Build repeatable vendor, product and profitability analytics.
- Develop a framework for measuring the effectiveness of manual underwriting.
- Identify actionable opportunities to improve conversion and expand the credit box where expected economics justify taking additional risk.
- Reduce dependence on ad hoc analyses and individual key-person knowledge.
- Create analytical capacity that allows the Chief Credit Officer to spend more time on risk strategy and business decisions rather than detailed data production.
Qualifications
Required
- 7+ years of experience in credit risk, lending analytics, portfolio analytics, decision science or a related field.
- Strong understanding of consumer, commercial or equipment-finance credit performance and lending economics.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with large, granular credit datasets.
- Strong SQL skills and advanced analytical capabilities using Excel and/or Python.
- Experience with vintage analysis, delinquency/default performance, loss forecasting and portfolio segmentation.
- Ability to independently take an ambiguous business question from data extraction through analysis, interpretation and recommendation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to explain complex analytical concepts to business and executive audiences.
- Highly hands-on working style; comfortable personally building analyses and models rather than primarily managing others.
Preferred
- Experience with small-business lending, equipment finance, leasing, fintech or specialty finance.
- Experience developing or monitoring credit scorecards and automated decision strategies.
- Familiarity with CECL, expected-credit-loss methodologies or reserve modeling.
- Experience with PD, EAD and LGD frameworks.
- Experience evaluating risk-adjusted pricing and profitability.
- Familiarity with bureau data, commercial credit data and third-party credit scores/models.
- Experience building controlled analytical processes that support financial reporting, audit or model governance.
