Ahead of the 2024 elections, Movement Labs is launching a political tactic incubator with unprecedented ambition. Our goal is to explore, analyze, and scale innovative strategies that persuade, mobilize, and register voters to counteract Trump's influence. We are committed to investing millions in successful initiatives, focusing on new digital and distributed organizing programs and turnout tactics. These efforts will target low-turnout, high-opportunity voters in marginalized communities, persuade Republican voters toward President Biden, and enhance voter registration efforts. The objective is to garner 50,000 votes for Biden ahead of the November Election.

Details & Compensation

Location: Remote

Start Date: ASAP

Compensation: $85,000-$91,000, depending on experience

About the Role

Movement labs is hiring for the role of Digital Organizing Director for the 2024 cycle. This role is a mission critical position for our Political Innovation Incubator - it leads execution for any political innovation idea that involves contacting humans in digital communities and online forums with paid staff, volunteers, and automations.

This role will be responsible for moving dozens of ideas through the process of vetting, scoping and project planning and piloting them to assess if they have the potential to net over 1000 votes across the seven battleground states. If pilots are successful, work includes scaling those ideas up ahead of the 2024 election. This role will report to the VP of Political Innovation and will work closely with the Incubator Director and SMS team.

Our ideal candidate is an organizing strategist with deep familiarity of online communities and volunteer and voter engagement. We are looking for someone who loves tough challenges, is extremely scrappy and creative and has a get-to-yes attitude.

This role will oversee several pilot projects. Two examples: Online Community Organizing - recruiting and training active online forum users in hundreds of forums to engage in persuasive conversation and meme-making to move undecided voters to vote for Biden. Partnering vendors that work with Macro & Micro influencers at scale to engage their followers in electioneering conversations.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with other departments within Movement Labs, and external-facing teams - to effectively scope new experiment ideas and effectively enroll them in implementation work as needed;
  • Hire and manage a team of digital organizing staff to support projects as needed including recruit & manage volunteers to assist in pilot projects;
  • Utilize online tools and distributed organizing tactics to leverage volunteers when possible;
  • Develop virtual volunteer (and staff) trainings, onboardings and volunteer management processes via Slack and other online platforms as needed;
  • Maintain relationships with external contractors working on digital organizing experiments and hold them accountable to goals;
  • Build and maintain political relationships with partner groups and grassroots organizations;
  • Create distributed organizing pilot programs with the intent to scale by setting ambitious digital organizing objectives, overseeing progress towards goals;
  • Work with the team to ideate, create and design assets for the campaigns
  • Coordinate with the internal tech team as needed to build and manage digital infrastructure for pilot and scaled programs;
  • In collaboration with the Organizing Mode Lead, oversee virtual peer-to-peer texting and dialer campaigns;
  • Create weekly reports detailing progress and hurdles from projects in the field.

Requirements

Our ideal candidate is someone who has:
  • At least two cycles of experience in a digital organizing role on a campaign or part of a digital department and at least 1 cycle of competitive campaign organizing experience
  • Strong understanding of digital organizing programs and digital organizing tools including peer-to-peer and/or mass blast texting (Spoke, ThruText, Hustle, Mobile Commons), relational organizing (OutVote, Reach), phone banking (VPB Connect, ThruTalk), and volunteer management/communication (VoteBuilder, Mobilize, Slack, Discord, Twitch, Reddit)
  • Experience with recruiting volunteers and developing volunteer leaders;
  • Exceptional writing, copyediting and proofreading skills;
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills and sound judgment;
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to think strategically to overcome challenges and achieve campaign objectives;
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically to get a project executed, including trying novel and new tactics including seeking expert input;
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours in a fast paced, metrics- driven work environment
  • Passionate about fighting fascism and defeating Donald Trump by re-electing President Biden.
