Development Director

***BVM IS CURRENTLY A REMOTE WORKING ENVIRONMENT. APPLICANT MUST RESIDE IN ATLANTA, GA.***

Development Director is the leader of Black Voters Matter (BVM) Development team with a primary purpose to increase the financial support of BVM Fund (C4) and BVM Capacity Building Institute (C3).  The Development Director will direct a wide range of fundraising activities, including administrative functions, which include oversight and management of a donor database, grant writing management, fundraising events, and identification, prospecting and cultivation of large and small donors, and public and private institutions. The Development Director will help to support expansion of BVM’s approach towards mobilizing voters as well as BVM’s broader objective of advocating for racial justice and building power for Black and marginalized communities.  

Principal Responsibilities: 

• Develops and oversees national and state specific fundraising and development strategies and campaigns to increase BVM’s donor base, grant opportunities, and resource partnerships (i.e. corporate partners, influencers). This includes using tools to track and access major and minor fundraising metrics, as well as holding large and small fund-raising events. 
• Creates and monitors a major gifts system, which identifies, vets, cultivates, and maintains positive relationships with large and small donors, influencers, private and public foundations, and funds who are in alignment with BVM’s overall mission and purpose.   
• Oversee BVM’s institutional giving program and grant submission process to ensure grant opportunities are identified on a regular basis, and grants are submitted timely, are factually accurate, and of high quality.
• In coordination with the communications team regularly creates and develops effective messaging and materials to assist with effective fund raising on all BVM’s communication platforms via social media, texting, email, print, and radio, when applicable. Also, oversee creation of publications to support fundraising opportunities.
• Consistently ensures that end of grant or annual reporting requested by Foundations/Funds/Donors, reports required by Executive Leadership and Board of Directors, BVM’s annual budget, and BVM’s annual impact report, in coordination with the communications, field team, and finance team, are prepared and submitted on time, and are factually accurate and of high quality.
• Oversee the hiring of development staff, as well as supervise the development team.
• Provide training to community and BVM partnership infrastructure on fundraising and grant writing, and donor cultivation throughout the year.

Qualifications:

• At least 8 years of relevant executive level experience in fundraising, donor cultivation, grant writing and management, development administration and supervision of a team in a mid-size to large non-profit organization, preferably with a focus on racial justice, voting and equity and a budget of five to ten million or more.
• Knowledge of donor databases and donor tracking is required;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office required (specifically Mail Merge using excel and word)
• Ability to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced and collaborative team environment; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt quickly.
• Excellent writing skills
• Commitment to progressive causes.
• Donor centered approach with commitment to excellent customer service.
• Strong writing and verbal communications skills, and ability to give presentations.
• High attention to detail.

Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Executive Director.

Compensation: Salary range: $165,000–$185,000, commensurate with experience.

Travel Requirements: Ability and willingness to travel approximately 20% of the time.
