POSITION SUMMARY

At UWD, technology and data play a critical role in advancing our mission of achieving dignity for our families and undocumented people across the country. We are looking for a visionary and collaborative team member who understands grassroots organizing, values the power of data, and approaches technological challenges with a solutions-oriented mindset: “let’s find a solution.”

The Lead, Data & Systems is ideal for someone who is experienced with and passionate about supporting organizations focused on grassroots and distributed organizing. This role uses data and technology to strengthen organizing efforts by helping teams access the information, tools, and systems they need to do what they do best - organize.

Reporting to the Director of Organizational Culture & Systems, the Data & Systems Lead serves as a technical expert and trusted partner who strengthens organizational data capacity, supports the implementation and optimization of platform features, and identifies, tests, and implements innovative solutions. Guided by the organization's strategic goals, this role ensures data is collected accurately and consistently, improves workflows, streamlines data processes, strengthens data practices, and enhances overall data management.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, self-directed professional who exercises sound judgment, takes initiative to solve complex problems, and collaborates effectively across departments to strengthen organizational capacity through data and technology.

Responsibilities

Data & Systems Strategy and Governance

• Alignment. Partner closely with the Director of Organizational Culture & Systems to implement organizational data and technology priorities, exercising sound judgment and initiative to advance departmental objectives while ensuring systems, processes, and initiatives align with organizational vision and governance standards.
• Data Governance. Develop, implement, document, and maintain data governance policies, standards, and procedures across organizational software products to promote data quality, consistency, security, and compliance.
• Security. Coordinate efforts to monitor system access and permissions, evaluate cybersecurity risks, coordinate quarterly phishing exercises and annual systems audits, and support secure digital operations that protect organizational data.

Systems Administration, Data Administration & Organizational Insights

• Systems Architecture. Manage the lifecycle of organizational data infrastructure and platform enhancements by troubleshooting, designing, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving scalable systems that support operations and ensure accurate, reliable engagement and organizational data.
• Systems Optimization. Proactively evaluate workflows, platform usage, and data collection practices to identify opportunities for improvement, implement best practices, and recommend technology and process enhancements that improve operational effectiveness, data quality, and organizational impact measurement.
• Data Insights: Build, maintain, and continuously improve reports, dashboards, queries, and data routines that transform organizational data into actionable insights supporting operational workflows, organizational reporting, strategic planning, and informed decision-making.
• Project Coordination: Independently manage cross-functional data and technology projects by assessing needs, defining requirements, coordinating vendors, supporting platform improvements, and ensuring successful implementation.

Project Leadership & Partnership

• Capacity Building: Lead organization-wide data and platform training initiatives and create accessible documentation, resources, and learning materials for staff, members, volunteers, and affiliates to strengthen data literacy, improve data collection practices, and encourage consistent platform adoption.
• Technical Partnership: Serve as a trusted technical resource by translating organizing, programmatic, and operational needs into practical technology solutions, advising teams on system capabilities, and supporting effective use of data and tools.
• Collaboration: Maintain regular communications and check-ins with the Director of Organizational Culture & Systems to review priorities, communicate project progress, identify challenges, recommend solutions, and support the successful execution of departmental and organizational objectives.
• Other Duties: Perform other related responsibilities as assigned in support of organizational priorities.

Desired Qualifications and Skills

• 3+ years of experience working with data systems, databases, CRM platforms, or organizational technology solutions, with the ability to manage projects, improve processes, and support effective data practices.
   
• Experience using SQL for database management and queries (e.g., Postgres, Civis, Redshift, BigQuery, or similar platforms) and writing Python scripts to support data workflows, automation, or analysis.
   
• Experience working with membership-based, nonprofit, or advocacy organizations and an understanding of how data supports engagement, relationship-building, and impact measurement.
   
• Experience creating reports, dashboards, and data insights and communicating findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
   
• Experience supporting CRM, organizing, or engagement platforms and providing training, documentation, and responsive support to users.
   
• Strong project management, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.

SALARY

Compensation: United We Dream offers a competitive salary, a comprehensive benefits package, and a supportive working environment. Salary is commensurate with skills and experience. Internal equity will be reviewed and considered to determine a final offer. For this position, the salary range is $61,200 - $91,800

• Vacation: Employees who have completed less than 1 year of service with United We Dream: 

• Holiday Break: 2 weeks of paid time off during the winter break period between December and January.
• Paid Holidays: 12 designated paid holidays annually.

Location

As UWD is a remote-first workplace, this is a full-time, remote position. We have a preference to hire in the following states: AZ, DC, CT, CA, FL, IL, MO, NJ, NM, NY, OK, SC, and TX. You may be required to travel occasionally for internal team meetings, retreats, and UWD events as required for your role.
