THE ROLE
As a Staff Accountant / Bookkeeper, you’ll play an important role in keeping Rythm’s day-to-day financial operations accurate, organized, and running smoothly.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is equally comfortable owning core bookkeeping responsibilities and supporting broader accounting processes. You’ll work across accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, expense management, cash activity, and month-end close while helping maintain accurate and timely financial records as the company continues to scale.
We’re looking for someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of their work in a fast-moving environment. The ideal candidate enjoys getting into the details, keeps clean books, catches discrepancies before they become problems, and can manage recurring accounting responsibilities with consistency and accuracy.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Own day-to-day bookkeeping and maintain accurate, up-to-date financial records.
- Support the month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and review of balance sheet and income statement accounts.
- Manage accounts payable, including reviewing, coding, and processing vendor invoices and ensuring payments are completed accurately and on time.
- Support accounts receivable activities, including recording incoming payments, monitoring outstanding balances, and reconciling cash receipts.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, merchant accounts, and other balance sheet accounts on a regular basis.
- Record and maintain monthly accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, depreciation, and other adjusting or reclassification entries.
- Maintain detailed cash tracking and ensure cash activity is properly reflected in the general ledger.
- Manage employee expense reports and reimbursements, ensuring expenses are appropriately documented, approved, coded, and recorded.
- Review transactions for proper general ledger and departmental coding and correct discrepancies as needed.
- Maintain organized supporting documentation for accounting transactions and financial records.
- Assist with payroll-related accounting entries and reconciliations.
- Support sales tax filings, reconciliations, and other compliance-related accounting activities as needed.
- Assist with preparation of schedules and supporting documentation for external accountants, auditors, and tax providers.
- Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and communicate issues clearly to the appropriate stakeholders.
- Help improve bookkeeping, accounting processes, controls, and documentation.
- Partner with other members of the Finance team on ad hoc accounting projects and operational needs.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of professional accounting and/or bookkeeping experience.
- Strong understanding of fundamental accounting principles, including debits and credits, journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and the general ledger.
- Hands-on experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank and credit card reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills.
- Experience working with accounting or ERP systems. NetSuite experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with tools such as Ramp, Brex, or similar platforms is a plus.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage recurring responsibilities and multiple deadlines.
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of tasks from start to finish.
- Proactive and resourceful, with the ability to identify discrepancies and follow through until they are resolved.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where processes continue to evolve.
- Experience with a consumer, healthcare, e-commerce, subscription, or high-growth technology company is a plus.
