Job Description

This role supports a large-scale, federally funded disaster recovery housing program focused on rebuilding homes for communities impacted by recent hurricanes. The CPA will play a key role in managing financial operations during a critical ramp-up phase, including oversight of payment processing, reconciliations, and reporting across multiple funding streams.

Responsibilities

  • Manage program-related bank accounts.
  • Perform ongoing reconciliations.
  • Ensure GAAP-compliant accounting.
  • Support high-volume transaction tracking tied to homeowner reimbursements and contractor payments.
  • Partner closely with compliance and program leadership to maintain accurate financial records and support audit readiness.

Essential Skills

  • CPA credential (active or eligible).
  • 5+ years of accounting/finance experience, including account reconciliations, financial reporting, and general ledger management.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles.
  • Experience managing high-volume financial transactions.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Experience working with multiple bank accounts and cash management activities.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-moving, less structured environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience supporting government-funded programs such as CDBG-DR, FEMA, HUD, or grants.
  • Experience in construction, real estate, or project-based accounting environments.
  • Exposure to audit readiness and compliance-heavy environments.
  • Experience with documentation review and reconciliation tied to approvals and payments.
  • Experience with payment processing workflows including AR/AP, reimbursements, and contractor payments.
  • Ability to clean up and organize financial processes, not just maintain them.

Work Environment

This is a fully remote position that requires working EST hours. The role will start part-time and ramp up to full-time within the next 6-8 weeks. This engagement is long-term, expected to run for over 2 years, and offers a high level of ownership and visibility.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $65.00/hr.
