Role: Corporate Controller

FLSA: Full Time | Exempt | Salaried | Remote (US)

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Scope of Position: The Corporate Controller will serve as a hands-on leader in Trustwell’s accounting operations, driving financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and the maintenance of best-in-class accounting standards. This highly visible role demands deep technical accounting expertise, a sharp operational mindset, and a proactive approach to optimizing financial processes. The ideal candidate will play a key role in aligning day-to-day execution with long-term financial strategy, partnering cross-functionally to support Trustwell’s continued growth and mission-driven success.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights, streamline accounting operations for scalability, and uphold the highest standards of accuracy and integrity. Building strong cross-functional relationships, anticipating financial risks, and continuously improving processes will be key to driving both operational excellence and strategic impact. Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but limited to:   

• Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, tax compliance, and financial reporting.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness, and maintaining the current close by EOD workday 2.
• Lead the annual external audit process and coordinate with external auditors for the US and UK.
• Design, document, implement, and continuously improve a scalable internal-control environment, including appropriate segregation of duties, approval authorities, account reconciliations, and management review controls.  
• Identify accounting processes that will not scale with the company's growth and proactively redesign them before they become constraints.
• Partner with Sales, Customer Success, and Legal to improve billing accuracy, contract-to-cash processes, collections, and customer payment terms.
• Deep knowledge and first-hand experience applying ASC 606, ASC 805, and ASC 350-40.
• Own revenue recognition policies and processes under ASC 606, including contract review, deferred revenue, contract assets/liabilities, and commissions where applicable.
• Partner with FP&A and Revenue Operations to ensure consistency between bookings, billings, ARR, revenue, deferred revenue, and cash collections.
• Own the accounting systems environment and drive automation, systems integration, and process improvements that improve scalability, accuracy, controls, and reporting efficiency. Serve as the Finance lead for accounting-related system implementations and integrations.
• Analyze financial data and provide actionable insights to leadership in decision-making.
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations and filings.
• Supervise and mentor members of the accounting team.
• Assist in financial due diligence, M&A activity, and investor reporting. Ensure the books are ready for an exit or add-on transaction at any moment.

Required Skills/Abilities 

• Thorough understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
• Strong attention to detail and a high level of integrity.
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems; NetSuite, Maxio, and Rippling experience is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
• Proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing accounting team.
• SaaS, technology, or private equity-backed company experience is a plus.
• Experience in designing and implementing accounting processes and controls
• Excellent collaboration and relationship-building skills

Education/Experience

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field is required. 
• Minimum 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful leadership responsibility
• Public accounting experience strongly preferred; Big Four or national/regional public accounting experience a plus.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• Prior Controller, Assistant Controller, or equivalent senior accounting leadership experience in a SaaS/software company strongly preferred.

•  Manage the accounting team to conduct day-to-day accounting operations

The compensation for this role is based on several factors, including the candidate's experience, education, skills, and alignment with the responsibilities outlined for the role. The anticipated salary range for this role is listed below; with most candidates hired in the mid-range. This position is eligible for up to 15% annual bonus, as well as, participation in the companies equity program
