Position Overview

We're looking for a detail-oriented Financial Controller to oversee our accounting operations and financial reporting. You'll make sure our books are accurate, our controls are sound, and leadership has reliable numbers to make decisions. This is a hands-on role for someone who can manage the day-to-day and improve how the finance function works.

Our client is a leading North American direct-to-customer retailer, manufacturer and distributor of premium bathroom lifestyle products, including vanities, faucets and accessories. They operate a cross-border supply chain with manufacturing in Asia, distribution in North America and strong relationships with box-box retailers and online platforms. They are seeking a controller who can speak with banks and has amazing communication skills to daily update and keep the CEO in the loop! This position will be 100% remote. 

Experience in manufacturing, furniture, import/export and e-commerce environments is highly preferred. The ideal candidate is comfortable working across time zones, managing offshore teams and handling complex multi-currency, multi-entity financial structures. 

Key responsibilities

• Manage the month-end and year-end close, including reconciliations and journal entries
• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process and report on variances
• Establish and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures in relation to the position
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger
• Coordinate external audits and act as the main contact for auditors
• Ensure compliance with tax filings, regulatory requirements, and accounting standards for Canada and other global locations
• Provide financial analysis and recommendations to CEO

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Professional accounting designation CPA/CMA required or strongly preferred
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Experience within manufacturing, furniture, consumer goods, import/export, or distribution industries.
• Experience managing multi-currency and cross-border operations.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting/ERP systems such as QuickBooks, Fishbowl, or similar platforms.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

Preferred

• Experience in furniture manufacturing or furniture e-commerce.
• Experience with big-box retailers and retail pricing strategies.
• Experience developing pricing models for multiple retail channels.
• Experience managing overseas finance teams or outsourced accounting functions.
• Familiarity with e-commerce platforms and marketplace business models.
• Knowledge of AI tools, automation platforms, and financial analytics technologies.
• Experience supporting international expansion and export programs.
• Understanding of seasonal inventory and cash flow cycles, including Chinese New Year impacts.
