The Controller will lead day-to-day accounting functions, including managing the general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting integrity. They will also partner with executive leadership to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and financial analysis as the company scales.
About the role
We’re seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the day-to-day accounting function and own the integrity of the company’s financial reporting, ensuring it is accurate, timely, and well-controlled.
This role will own the general ledger and month-end close process, including balance sheet management, cash, accounts payable, payroll and benefits accounting, accruals, prepaids, and cost of goods. The Controller will work closely with the CFO, Finance, and functional leaders to ensure transactions are recorded appropriately, financial reporting is reliable, and accounting processes and controls continue to improve as the business scales.
This is a hands-on role today, with the opportunity to build and lead the broader accounting function over time.
What you'll do
Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including journal entries, accruals, prepaids, payroll and benefits entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
Maintain complete and organized supporting documentation for journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and other accounting activity to ensure a clear audit trail and appropriate support for recorded transactions
Maintain the general ledger and ensure the integrity and accuracy of both the income statement and balance sheet
Directly manage accounts payable, including invoice processing, vendor setup, approvals, and weekly payment runs
Manage cash activity and support visibility into cash balances, upcoming obligations, and working capital needs
Partner with executive and functional leaders to identify accruals, commitments, and other period-end accounting requirements
Own accounting for inventory and cost of goods sold, including raw materials and finished goods
Partner with Finance on reporting, variance analysis, forecasting, and other financial analysis
Maintain and improve accounting policies, close documentation, internal controls, and operating procedures
Identify opportunities to improve, automate, and scale accounting processes
Support audit, tax, and other accounting and compliance requirements as needed
Qualifications
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant ownership of the monthly close and general ledger
Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar hands-on accounting leadership role
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience managing both income statement and balance sheet accounting
Demonstrated experience with accruals, prepaids, payroll and benefits accounting, accounts payable, cash, and account reconciliations
Experience with inventory and cost of goods accounting, including raw materials and finished goods, strongly preferred
Advanced Excel skills and the ability to work effectively with large and complex data sets
Strong analytical judgment with the ability to identify issues, understand financial impacts, and communicate key takeaways clearly to executive leadership
Ability to operate independently, manage competing priorities, and work effectively in a fast-moving environment
Experience with systems such as QuickBooks, Ramp, Rippling, Stripe, or AWS QuickSight is helpful but not required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
