As a key member of the Finance team, the Controller owns the day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls of the company across all US and international entities. This position is responsible for the integrity of ComputerCare’s financial data and for giving leadership the clear, timely, GAAP-compliant numbers they need to run and grow the business.
Just as important, the Controller is the person who looks at the whole financial picture and makes sure it makes sense. A core purpose of this role is holistic oversight: reviewing results, billing, and key controls with an investigative mindset to catch errors and anomalies before they compound. As ComputerCare has grown, too much financial ownership has defaulted to the executive team. The Controller brings that ownership into Finance where it belongs.
We need someone who has been the Corporate Controller of a growing, multi-entity company and can build a world-class accounting organization and serve as the senior accounting leader while partnering closely with the Fractional CFO on broader finance initiatives. Top candidates will have AI proficiency that balances AI capabilities to achieve efficiency without relying solely on AI and will be accountable for all work product, including that produced/augmented by AI.
This is a remote position with occasional travel for in-person leadership meetings, planning sessions, and key close cycles. The Controller partners closely with the CEO, the fractional CFO, COO, and other operations leaders across Burlingame, Stockton, and field sites, as well as international teams in Ireland, India, and Singapore.
Values in Action
We instead of me. Be accountable. Take initiative. Act with empathy. Embrace curiosity. Do the right thing.
The Controller models and reinforces ComputerCare’s values through financial leadership by:
Own the monthly close calendar and process, delivering accurate, timely financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) with clear deadlines, checklists, and accountability.
Drive continuous reduction in monthly close timelines while improving accuracy and documentation.
Serve as the company’s holistic financial reviewer: regularly review results, billing, and key reports with an investigative mindset to catch errors and anomalies before they compound.
Prepare GAAP-compliant consolidated financial statements, including intercompany eliminations, and drive ongoing GAAP compliance in the monthly books.
Maintain and improve the chart of accounts and general ledger structure, ensuring accurate coding, classification, and period accuracy; review and approve journal entries and account reconciliations.
Oversee client billing for accuracy and timeliness, and partner with IT to ensure any finance-related tools or automations reflect correct financial logic.
Manage accounts receivable, aging, and collections; review customer agreements for revenue recognition implications; escalate aged or at-risk balances to leadership.
Supervise accounts payable, approval workflows, and payment runs; manage vendor master data, purchase orders, and resale certificate compliance.
Oversee domestic and international payroll processing, accruals, and compliance in partnership with the company’s PEO.
Establish inventory accounting appropriate to a reseller and drop-ship model: inventory reporting, aging, reserve methodology, tracking of inventory held at third-party and supplier locations, and inventory turns.
Own the monthly consolidation process for domestic and international entities, including coordinating with third-party accounting providers in Ireland, India and Singapore, reviewing subsidiary financial statements for accuracy, ensuring compliance with US GAAP reporting requirements, identifying adjustments required for consolidation, and preparing intercompany eliminations.
Maintain and strengthen internal controls, including a documented segregation of duties and a defined approval matrix, and configure and enforce NetSuite approval workflows.
Support the annual audit, reviews, and tax filings, and coordinate with external providers on sales and indirect tax, nexus, and exemption certificate compliance.
Maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion with regard to all matters, data and documents.
Escalate judgment calls to and partner with the fractional CFO on financial strategy, forecasting, and analysis for pricing, capital, and contract decisions.
Provide leadership with clear reporting on revenue, gross margin by client, and client concentration to support diversification and pricing decisions.
Maintain and update the rolling 13-week cash flow forecast and consolidated cash visibility across domestic and international entities, with the fractional CFO leading initial model design.
Support budget development and budget-versus-actual reporting with variance analysis once budgets are established.
Direct and review the work of internal accounting staff, manage day-to-day relationships with outsourced accounting and tax providers, and serve as the primary interface with the external CPA firm.
Improve utilization of NetSuite (reporting, workflow, and dashboard capabilities) to provide the clean, reliable data foundation that operational dashboards and reporting depend on.
Develop and maintain a job costing and client/project profitability view suited to a services business.
Build positive working relationships with clients, vendors, and partners, resolving financial issues quickly and professionally.
Identify financial risks and opportunities and bring them to leadership proactively.
Maintain accurate, organized records that meet the requirements of auditors and government agencies.
Grow into broader finance leadership over time, with mentorship from the fractional CFO and expanded scope as the function matures.
Continuously improve accounting processes through automation, workflow improvements, and effective use of ERP capabilities.
Perform analytical review of financial statements, investigate unusual fluctuations, identify trends, and proactively resolve issues before financial statements are finalized.
Research complex accounting issues and prepare technical accounting memoranda supporting accounting conclusions under US GAAP when appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
During the first 12 months this individual will:
Take ownership of the monthly close process and improve close quality and timeliness.
Establish consistent monthly reporting across all domestic and international entities.
Strengthen internal controls and approval workflows within NetSuite.
Improve inventory accounting and reporting.
With the fractional CFO, develop and provide reliable cash flow reporting and forecasting.
Build strong working relationships with outsourced accounting providers in Ireland, India, and Singapore.
Reduce executive involvement in day-to-day accounting decisions through improved ownership and accountability.
Partner closely with the Fractional CFO to elevate the finance organization.
7–10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including a controller or senior accounting role.
Experience as a controller or senior accountant in a privately held, closely held, or family-owned mid market company.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience); CPA or public accounting experience strongly preferred.

Experience with inventory accounting in a reseller, distribution, or drop-ship environment. Experience establishing inventory accounting policies, reserves, reconciliation procedures, and controls within a reseller or distribution environment.
Working knowledge of multi-state sales and indirect tax and nexus, and comfort coordinating outsourced tax and accounting providers.
Experience building internal controls, segregation of duties, and approval frameworks.
Proficiency in AI tools and use aligned with ComputerCare AI policy(ies).
Excellent judgment, discretion, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance leaders.
Ability to work independently in a remote role while staying closely connected to a distributed team, with the ambition and potential to grow into broader finance leadership.
Experience in a services, IT, or high-growth environment is a plus.
Experience leading accounting teams, including developing staff, setting priorities, and holding teams accountable for deliverables.
