Only apply if, after due consideration, you think you can add real value to our outstanding team and can fully commit to supporting our mission of helping immigrants secure their future in the United States through asylum. You'll work from home, and can be located anywhere in the world. You'll need a quiet space, fast internet, and the discipline to stay on task without close supervision. You will perform a wide range of both administrative and substantive tasks in advancing our mission of helping immigrants secure their future in the United States through asylum. You must be flexible - the nature of tasking may change daily or over time, with you stepping up to do whatever is needed to give potential clients and clients the best experience possible. Policies and procedures will change frequently, as we're a fast-growing company, and we're constantly experimenting to optimize our delivery of services. You must speak Spanish and English fluently and be comfortable using both languages professionally - you'll use both languages every day on the job. You've got to be detail-oriented and able to work under pressure, meeting deadlines and producing top-notch work. To be clear, the work is at times intense: we're doing important - in some cases, life-or-death - work for our clients, sometimes on compressed timelines, and we're serious about promoting a culture of excellence in all that we do. If you can handle that, and you're passionate about supporting people who truly need the best help possible as they face crisis, then you'll find working at Political Asylum Lawyers to be immensely rewarding. Our work changes lives. Our team takes immense pride in the role we play, through our advocacy and client engagement, in helping immigrants get safety, stability, and freedom. Working here also means a chance to cultivate skills that will serve you for the rest of your career, as we prioritize training and professional development. What you will do While job functions are sure to evolve over time and you will be asked to do a variety of different things, you will focus, at least to start, on three core functions: Client Engagement / Case Development You will serve as a point of contact for clients, engaging them routinely - in both English and Spanish - and ensuring they have an excellent experience with the firm. This will mean sending emails and making phone calls daily to respond to client inquiries and to seek information and documents from them as we manage their cases. You will effectively be the face of Political Asylum Lawyers to clients - a main point of contact with the firm. You must bring outstanding communication skills and plenty of empathy to bear in handling these important relationships. You will ensure that case development and the broader representation flow smoothly along predefined workflows. You will not need substantive knowledge of U.S. immigration law, but you must master our standard operating procedures for servicing cases and dealing with clients. Managing Government Correspondence You will have the important responsibility of managing all official correspondence received from government entities. This will require exceptional attention to detail and communication skills to ensure that every item is handled with the utmost care and diligence. This task involves reviewing mail (physical mail that has been scanned and is accessed online - you will not deal with actual paper) and email daily and applying your judgment in following detailed handling instructions to decide what action each item of correspondence demands. In line with our mail handling instructions, you will inform the appropriate personnel in the firm when we receive certain correspondence, and will update firm systems - including by adding events and deadlines to our online calendar - and send email notifications to clients. This is an absolutely vital process in our firm, so it must be handled with great care and professionalism. Attention to detail is everything. Following Up with Prospective Clients and Former Clients You will make calls to potential clients to seek to move them down the path toward hiring our law firm, and to inquire as to why those who went elsewhere didn't choose to work with us. Additionally, you will assist in scheduling and rescheduling meetings for firm personnel with various stakeholders. You will also call former clients to see if we can be of assistance to them in any way, seek online reviews of our firm, and seek referrals from them. What you will get Salary commensurate with experience, but above market norms. Pay may increase quickly if you're a great fit for the firm and do an outstanding job. In addition to a competitive salary, you will enjoy work-life balance. While the work can be intense, you won't be asked to work more than 40 hours per week. You will also receive all benefits and contributions that employers in your country are required to provide by law to full-time employees. The firm may pay for certain additional, non-obligatory benefits, depending on the country you live in. Opportunities for professional development abound - we love providing time and resources for our employees to acquire and develop skills. You will receive three weeks of vacation annually. Additionally, all employees, including those based outside the United States, are off work on all U.S. federal holidays (11) and the week between Christmas and New Year's Day. You will not be off on non-U.S. holidays, but will be compensated in line with your country's laws for work done on local holidays. How to Apply To apply, please submit a resume and a cover letter, both of which must be in English. Your application won't be considered without a cover letter. Your cover letter should explain why you're uniquely qualified for this particular position, and why you would be a great fit for our law firm. Generic, copy/paste cover letters will be discarded. Upload your cover letter and resume, in PDF format, through the software program where you're viewing this announcement. Please do not call or email us about this opening.
