You will define the end-to-end product vision and roadmap for the platform, overseeing provider software, reimbursement workflows, and data products. Additionally, you will lead an interdisciplinary team and drive growth by integrating AI-led solutions and rigorous experimentation to improve health outcomes.
Maisha Meds is hiring! We're looking for a product leader to own our platform end to end and define what it becomes over the next three years.
About Maisha Meds
Maisha Meds is an organization dedicated to improving health care in Africa through best-in-class technology.
Founded in 2017, Maisha Meds has created the largest digital network of private pharmacies and clinics across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Nigeria through our mobile software. Our platform helps these providers improve their business by making sales, managing inventory, and tracking patients. It also reimburses them for providing high-quality care for malaria, eyeglasses, and HIV care at discounted costs.
Maisha Meds supports more than 35 million patient visits every year and has provided more than 2 million quality-assured reimbursements to date. We harness data from our network to reveal health and market trends, which allows us to design better solutions that work for the people we serve. We have worked with leading academic institutions such as UC Berkeley and KEMRI to evaluate the effectiveness of our programs, and we continue to demonstrate 4-7x improvement in quality and effective health care through randomized trials and ongoing program data.
We recently demonstrated the sustainability of our model through a flagship initiative with the Lagos State Government, which adopted our platform for malaria and fever care via a World Bank loan and subsequently through direct state budgetary support.
About the role
Maisha Meds runs three products that work as one system: the business software that 6,000 pharmacies and clinics use every day; the payments and audit platform that reimburses those providers for quality-assured care and gives payors the verification they need; and a real-time, geotagged dispensing dataset that is one of the largest longitudinal records of private-sector primary care in Africa, built across four countries.
This role owns that system end to end. The provider experience, the reimbursement workflows, the data products our payors depend on, and the AI layer that cuts across all of it. You will define what the platform becomes over the next three years, be accountable for growth and for health outcomes, and lead an interdisciplinary team spanning product, design, engineering, clinical, and country program functions.
Two things make this different from most product leadership roles. First, our funding is increasingly tied to verified outcomes rather than activity, so measurement is not a reporting function here. It is the product. Second, we have the dataset, the provider relationships, and the operational load that make AI worth doing for real rather than as a pilot, and nobody has yet set that agenda.
The role is remote-first (though with a preference for aligned time zones), with travel across our markets for product research and to work with our team. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
What you will do
Platform vision and roadmap. Set a product vision across provider software, reimbursement, and data, and turn it into a roadmap with real prioritization behind it. Make the trade-offs between bold bets and quick wins explicit, decide what we build versus buy, and hold the organization to OKRs rather than activity reports.
AI-led product experience. Reason through where AI owns a task, where it assists a provider or an operator, and where a clinician has to stay in the loop. Build an eval-led practice so we improve accuracy and engagement with evidence rather than intuition. The near-term surface area is concrete: forecasting and stockout prevention from our dispensing data, anomaly detection in claims and audit, decision support at the point of dispensing, low-bandwidth conversational interfaces for providers and patients, and aggressive automation of the internal operations that currently cap how fast we can grow.
Metrics and experimentation. Define what good looks like before we build, then be rigorous about measuring it. Own the metric tree that runs from provider activation, engagement, and retention through claim quality and payment integrity to patient outcomes and cost per DALY averted. Build the instrumentation and reconciliation that make those numbers trustworthy to a payor, not just to us. Run staged rollouts, holdouts, and quasi-experimental designs so we are learning continuously between formal trials.
Growth and operating model. Own acquisition, activation, and retention across the network, with a thorough understanding of LTV and CAC rather than top-of-funnel alone. Shape how the platform is positioned, priced, and deployed with government health systems, private partners, and payors.
Management and execution. Deliver yourself while managing and mentoring a team of product managers and designers and leading several scrum teams across geographies. Build a culture that is ambitious, data-driven, customer-centric, and focused on outcomes. Keep raising the team's ability to execute.
Partnership and advocacy. Represent the product with ministries of health, funders, leadership, and country teams. Lead steering committees, translate complex technical work clearly for every one of those audiences, and unlock the partnerships that drive growth.
Who we're looking for
A builder. You have taken at least one product from concept to production to scale in a resource-constrained environment, and you owned its outcomes. You do not need scaffolding to get started.
Depth in AI product work. 8+ years of product experience, with a meaningful share of that on AI-powered products and managing people. Hands-on fluency with LLMs: prompt design, retrieval architectures, eval pipelines, agent tooling, and the cost, latency, and quality trade-offs that decide whether a feature survives contact with a pharmacy in a low-connectivity setting.
Quantitative instinct. You are genuinely data fluent. You cut the data yourself, you can tell a weak metric from a real one, and you have built an experimentation practice rather than inherited one.
First-principles thinking about service design. You prototype quickly, sketch flows, write the copy, and make your vision concrete rather than describing it.
Credibility across clinical and technical teams. You can earn trust with both and translate between them without losing either.
Context. Deep experience with building products that users love, including customer needs, market opportunity, and reporting and regulatory requirements across multiple countries. Experience in healthcare, clinical tools, or another high-stakes domain is a strong plus. Prior experience with third-party technology and product partnerships helps.
Mindsets.
