The Business Analyst is responsible for understanding client goals, requirements, and challenges to drive strategic planning, process improvement, and organizational transformation. They will lead discovery workshops, develop business roadmaps, and provide professional guidance to stakeholders through data analytics and documentation.
Summary
The Business Analyst is highly skilled at understanding business needs and driving results in complex environments. The role is responsible for understanding client goals, requirements, expectations, and challenges related to strategic planning, process improvement, solution implementation, and organizational change. This position focuses on client needs analysis, current and future state process documentation, organizational transformation, business and technology optimization, and supporting project teams with documentation and key deliverables. Business Analysis work is performed on Advisory engagements and within implementation projects.
Responsibilities
Client-Side Advisory: Provide professional guidance to business stakeholders, department leaders, and project teams through utility industry research, data analytics, executive summaries, presentations, and documentation.
Requirements Elicitation: Lead discovery and design workshops with business and IT stakeholders, as part of an implementation or assessment team, to draw out business needs when they are not yet clearly identified.
Impact Assessment: Identify and describe what a change touches across stakeholders, interfaces, end users, external customers, training, communications, and reporting.
Client Roadmapping: Develop comprehensive business roadmaps that align with strategic goals and objectives, ensuring a clear path for transformation and growth.
Solution and Business Optimization: Analyze People, Process, and Technology client challenges and discover opportunities to design and implement optimal business processes and solutions based on industry best practices.
Documentation and Traceability: Produce clear documentation, including the requirements, acceptance criteria, and process models that delivery teams build from, and keep decisions, assumptions, and open items visible and up to date for the life of the engagement.
Collaboration and Partnership: Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, vendors, and external partners.
Business Development: Collaborate with sales and account teams to support business development efforts, pursue new opportunities, and extend existing engagements.
Planning: Contribute to the creation of business plans, resource plans, and budget plans for various business initiatives.
Presentation and Demonstration: Develop and deliver high-quality presentations and deliverables, articulating solution features and benefits that satisfy customer requirements.
Process Improvement: Lead initiatives to analyze and transform legacy business processes and systems into modern solutions that address business, technical, and people needs.
Industry Engagement: Gather and share utility industry information with clients and colleagues to address shared challenges, surface better approaches, and improve outcomes.
Mentorship and Training: Mentor and train team members, support recruitment efforts, and identify new methodologies and tools for business analysis.
Qualifications
Experience: 10 or more years’ professional experience is preferred, with 7 or more years in business analysis, process improvement, solution implementation, and project management, in a consulting role or within utilities or a relevant industry.
Education: Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education, work experience, and certifications.
Scope Ownership: Experience owning the business-side scope of an engagement end to end.
Technical Skills: Experience with business process modeling, requirements gathering, and familiarity with software development lifecycle, senior or expert level skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Communication: Strong oral and written communication with the ability to connect with both business and technical resources and be proficient with the facilitation of meetings. Must have the ability to clearly document and summarize meetings, interviews, and workshops, prioritizing important key details in project documentation.
Relationship Building: Ability to build and leverage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Teamwork: Must be a self-starter with a good work ethic and the ability to work as part of a team.
Problem-Solving: Capable of breaking down complex problems into manageable subcomponents.
Systems Thinking: Able to see how a change in one area affects another, and to identify second- and third-order effects before they surface later in a project or engagement.
Working Without Precedent: Comfortable where there are no templates or prior examples. Able to establish approaches in ambiguous environments to move work forward.
Travel: Willingness to travel as necessary to client sites, industry events, or Red Clay meetings (up to 80%).
