AI Summary

The Actuarial Analytics Lead will design and own the end-to-end reinsurance data pipeline while developing reserving, pricing, and capital models to drive business strategy. This role involves presenting quantitative findings directly to leadership and collaborating across risk management and reinsurance business units.

Group 1001 is a consumer-centric, technology-driven family of insurance companies on a mission to deliver outstanding value and operational performance by combining financial strength and stability with deep insurance expertise and a can-do culture. Group1001’s culture emphasizes the importance of collaboration, communication, core business focus, risk management, and striving for outcomes. This goal extends to how we hire and onboard our most valuable assets – our employees.

RVI Group, a growing company with a broad portfolio of specialty insurance products, reinsurance, financial solutions, and analytical services, is seeking an experienced in-house attorney to serve as a primary legal partner for insurance product development, insurance policy wordings, regulatory matters, and day-to-day insurance operations. This role combines deep product and insurance policy-wording expertise with broad in-house insurance responsibilities spanning claims, regulatory, compliance, and corporate matters.

Why This Role Matters:

Build the models and the data behind them, and see your work drive real decisions.

Have you grown your career in P&C reserving or pricing and want to own more of the picture? You'll build our insurance and reinsurance data platform end to end. Then you'll use it to develop the reserving, pricing, capital and accumulation models that shape our reinsurance strategy, growth and risk appetite. You'll present directly to the leaders who act on them.

You'll write the code, validate the numbers and stand behind the results. In return you get real ownership: your platform, your methods, your name on the work. You'll partner with Risk Management, our Guarantee business and our Reinsurance business. This is an entrepreneurial role and over time have the opportunity to build and lead a team.

You bring your experience with loss triangles, development and credibility methods, frequency/severity modeling, treaty structures and accumulation analysis and we'll teach you our speciality lines, including residual value insurance and guarantee products.

How You'll Contribute:

Actuarial and Quantitative Analysis:

  • Produce Portfolio Surveillance, Loss Model, Mark to Market and Capital Adequacy reports.
  • Manage loss reserving analysis and methodology across the reinsurance and RVI portfolios.
  • Build and maintain Capital Charge Models for all lines of business and the whole company.
  • Develop scorecards to manage concentration and accumulation risks for the whole company.
  • Provide independent actuarial peer review on reinsurance transactions.

Reinsurance Data Pipeline and Data Science:

  • Design, build and own the end-to-end reinsurance data pipeline, covering submission and exposure data from cedent, broker, MGA and fronting partners.
  • Develop and maintain the reinsurance and treaty database, together with the data structures supporting loss reserving methodologies.
  • Ensure model inputs are auditable and defensible for auditors, rating agencies and regulators.
  • Apply statistical and machine learning techniques to insurance data, including claims frequency and severity modeling, fraud and leakage detection, portfolio segmentation and predictive underwriting triage.
  • Perform exploratory analysis on new lines of business where credible internal data is thin and design the data capture required to build that credibility over time.

Collaboration and Presentation:

  • Support all new business development for US and international markets, including market research across North American and other developed markets.
  • Provide any requested quantitative analysis and information for various business lines and corporate initiatives.

 What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, economics, statistics or related field; advanced degree a plus.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in an analytical position, in P&C insurance or reinsurance.
  • 2-5 years’ experience of managing a quantitative, actuarial or data team.
  • Demonstrated experience building or substantially rebuilding a data pipeline or analytical data platform, rather than solely consuming one.
  • Reinsurance, fronting, MGA or program business experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrates initiative, takes ownership and has strong work ethic.
  • Ability to conduct in-depth research on business issues and effectively communicate findings in verbal or written format efficiently.
  • Ability to train, manage and mentor small teams.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and collaboration skills.
  • Strong intellectual curiosity with the ability and drive to learn new subjects, tasks and skills quickly; comfortable asking questions and verifying information and requirements.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of actuarial principles, reserving and pricing technique, compliance requirements, risk management technique and financial modeling
  • Excellent skills and experience in data analyses and data management, including comfort with messy, incomplete and inconsistently formatted real-world insurance data, and the judgment to know when to fix it, flag it or work around it.
  • Advanced SQL and Python. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of statistical software such as R, STATA or SAS.
  • Strong desire to write the query, clean the file, build the model and ship the report personally.
  • Comfortable operating on multiple fronts at once, shifting between strategic modeling work and detailed data remediation without losing momentum.

Nice to Have: CAS exam progress or ACAS/FCAS; experience with credit, surety, guarantee or residual value products.

Compensation:

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The total compensation for this position ranges from $200,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $220,000/year in our highest geographic market.  Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Benefits Highlights:

Employees who meet benefit eligibility guidelines and work 30 hours or more weekly, have the ability to enroll in Group 1001’s benefits package. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the Company’s comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plan options.  Employees are also eligible for Basic and Supplemental Life Insurance, Short and Long-Term Disability. All employees (regardless of hours worked) have immediate access to the Company’s Employee Assistance Program and wellness programs—no enrollment is required.  Employees may also participate in the Company’s 401K plan, with matching contributions by the Company.

Group 1001, and its affiliated companies, is strongly committed to providing a supportive work environment where employee differences are valued. Diversity is an essential ingredient in making Group 1001 a welcoming place to work and is fundamental in building a high-performance team. Diversity embodies all the differences that make us unique individuals.  All employees share the responsibility for maintaining a workplace culture of dignity, respect, understanding and appreciation of individual and group differences.
