Vice President of Human Resources

Edge Home Finance, LLC

Location: Remote

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Department: Human Resources

FLSA Status: Exempt

About Edge Home Finance

Edge Home Finance is a mortgage broker operating in a highly regulated financial services environment. We are seeking a Vice President of Human Resources to build and lead an HR function that protects the company through disciplined compliance, sound risk management, and strong people practices — while supporting our growth as a mortgage broker.

Position Summary

The VP of Human Resources is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day operation of the HR function at Edge Home Finance. Reporting to the CFO, this role carries particular emphasis on benefits management and employment law compliance, regulatory risk management, and HR governance appropriate to a regulated mortgage lending environment — including fair lending/EEO intersection issues, licensing-related personnel requirements (e.g., NMLS), wage-and-hour compliance across multiple states, and audit-readiness of HR policies and recordkeeping.

This is a hands-on leadership role: the VP will both set HR strategy and execute on core HR operations and benefits, particularly during the early stages of building out the function.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance & Risk Management (Primary Focus)

  • Own multi-state employment law compliance (wage-and-hour, leave laws, termination practices, background checks, I-9/E-Verify) across all jurisdictions where Edge has employees
  • Partner with Legal and Compliance on regulatory matters that intersect with HR, including NMLS licensing requirements for loan officers, fair-lending-adjacent employment practices, and SAFE Act personnel obligations
  • Design and maintain HR policies, employee handbooks, and recordkeeping practices that will withstand regulatory examination and audit
  • Serve as a key stakeholder in internal audits and regulatory exams where HR practices, personnel files, or licensing records are in scope
  • Manage employment-related risk, including EEO/discrimination complaint handling, investigations, and documentation standards
  • Monitor and respond to changes in federal and state employment law affecting a distributed, multi-state workforce

HR Strategy & Leadership

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO, CFO and executive team on organizational design, workforce planning, and HR risk exposure
  • Build scalable HR infrastructure (systems, policies, processes) appropriate for a growing regulated lender
  • Develop and manage the HR budget in partnership with the CFO

Core HR Operations

  • Oversee full-cycle talent acquisition, ensuring hiring practices (including licensing prerequisites for loan officers) are compliant and well-documented
  • Lead compensation and benefits strategy, including benchmarking and plan administration
  • Own performance management, employee relations, and disciplinary/termination processes with a compliance-first lens
  • Manage HRIS and personnel recordkeeping systems, ensuring data integrity and audit trails.  Currently BambooHR.
  • Lead employee onboarding/offboarding processes, with attention to licensing and credentialing requirements specific to mortgage lending staff

Culture & Organizational Development

  • Partner with leadership to shape company culture, engagement, and retention strategies
  • Design training programs, including mandatory compliance training (harassment prevention, fair lending awareness, etc.)

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years in a senior HR leadership role (Director/VP level)
  • Demonstrated experience in a regulated industry — financial services, mortgage/banking, or similar — with direct exposure to compliance-driven HR practices
  • Deep working knowledge of multi-state employment law
  • Deep experience in managing payroll and commissions with companies with more than 4,000 team members
  • Experience building or scaling HR infrastructure, ideally in a growth-stage or lean organization
  • Strong track record partnering directly with C-suite executives
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field

Preferred

  • Experience in mortgage lending, banking, or consumer finance specifically, including familiarity with NMLS/SAFE Act personnel requirements
  • SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or equivalent professional HR certification
  • Experience supporting HR through a regulatory exam or audit
  • Experience managing a remote/distributed workforce across multiple states
  • Certified Payroll Professional designation

What Edge Home Finance Offers

  • 401(k) is available
  • Fully remote work with occasional domestic travel
