Traffic Safety Specialist

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking a proactive, organized Traffic Safety Specialist  to support transportation safety and traffic records projects, particularly work related to State Highway Safety Offices (SHSO) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)-funded initiatives. This role is suited for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys coordination, technical writing, client support, and project delivery. This position will work closely with project managers and technical staff to help plan and deliver traffic safety initiatives, coordinate project activities, and produce high-quality written materials and presentations.

This position is open to remote workers outside the Raleigh area, from anywhere on the East Coast of the US, with work hours aligned to the EST time zone.

Key Responsibilities

• Support transportation safety and traffic records projects.
• Coordinate meetings, agendas, materials, and follow-up actions.
• Prepare and edit technical materials, including summaries, memoranda, reports, and presentations.
• Support client relationships through responsive, professional communication.
• Track project tasks, timelines, and action items across multiple efforts.
• Support conference facilitation and coordination both virtual and in-person.
• Assist with business development activities such as proposals, qualifications, and presentation materials.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree 
• 1–3+ years of experience in consulting, public agency, transportation, safety, or a related field preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Strong meeting coordination, technical writing, presentation, organization, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, work collaboratively, and adapt in a project-based environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with traffic records, crash data, or transportation safety programs.
• Familiarity with SHSOs, NHTSA programs, or related transportation safety initiatives.
• Experience in a consulting or professional services environment.

The full-time annual base salary range for this position, located in Raleigh, NC, is $68,000 to $88,000. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program. 

We may consider candidates who will work remotely, from another VHB office location, or on a reduced-hours schedule.

Annual base salary is one component of VHB’s Total Rewards package. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may receive annual incentive compensation bonuses, spot bonuses, and merit-based salary increases, providing opportunities to increase earnings beyond base pay.
