AI Summary

You will co-own and maintain technical documentation for InRule products while collaborating with engineers and product managers. This role involves identifying documentation gaps, planning projects, and translating complex technical concepts into accessible content for various audiences.

About the role

As a Technical Writer, you will co-own documentation for InRule's products and maintain our public docs site. This is a collaborative role working alongside the documentation team. This is a highly self-directed role: you'll identify what documentation needs to be created or improved, plan the work, execute it, and measure its impact. You'll write new technical documentation and release notes, translate complex ideas from engineers and product managers into content that's clear for different audiences, and continuously look for ways to make our documentation more accessible across the total product experience to both internal and external users. You'll sit within the Product team, collaborating closely with product managers and engineers. At InRule, we view docs as a solution. On this team, you will not be confined to the role of writer, but instead use your product knowledge and technical writing skills to improve the success of our customers, support user journeys, enable internal teams, and strengthen company messaging. You'll need to be a strong communicator who's comfortable asking questions, locating information, and taking initiative.

What you'll do

  • Documentation & Writing
    • Write and maintain technical documentation across InRule's products.
    • Write release notes that clearly communicate new features, changes, and fixes to customers.
    • Translate complex technical concepts from engineers and product managers into documentation that's accessible to business users, developers, and internal teams.
    • Maintain and improve the structure, organization, and usability of the docs site.
  • Project Ownership & Planning
    • Identify documentation gaps and improvement opportunities across the product suite, and independently plan and prioritize the work.
    • Own projects end to end: scoping, execution, and follow-through.
    • Measure the impact of documentation projects.
  • Collaboration & Communication
    • Partner with product managers and engineers to gather accurate, up-to-date information for documentation.
    • Communicate progress and updates on documentation initiatives across teams.
    • Work cross-functionally within the Product organization to align documentation with product releases and priorities.
  • Accessibility & Continuous Improvement
    • Evaluate and improve the accessibility of documentation for both internal and external audiences.
    • Stay current on documentation best practices and tooling to continuously improve how InRule delivers information to users.

What we’re looking for

  • 3+ years of experience in technical writing, preferably within a SaaS or B2B software environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Technical Writing, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience writing for multiple audiences, including technical and non-technical users.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible content.
  • Experience with tools such as Confluence, Jira, GitHub, Docusaurus, and writing Docs as Code is a plus.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently to identify, plan, and complete projects.

What we offer

  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
  • Flexible work environment.
  • The opportunity to build and shape a premium support function with measurable customer impact.
  • A collaborative culture with close partnership across Support, Engineering, Product, and Customer Success.
  • Professional growth within a scaling SaaS organization.
