The Supplier Quality Manager is responsible for ensuring the quality and performance of external suppliers supporting a multi-line distributor of OEM HVAC, plumbing, and appliance parts and equipment. This role leads supplier qualification, performance management, and continuous improvement efforts to ensure products consistently meet company standards and customer expectations. The position plays a critical role in mitigating risk, strengthening supplier partnerships, and driving quality excellence across the supply chain.
 
Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead supplier qualification and selection processes, including capability assessments, onboarding, and approval of new suppliers
  • Develop, implement, and maintain supplier performance scoring systems, including KPIs, scorecards, and ongoing performance tracking
  • Monitor supplier quality performance and drive accountability through regular business reviews and performance feedback
  • Plan and execute supplier audits (on-site and remote) to ensure compliance with quality standards, regulatory requirements, and company expectations
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate supplier-related risks through proactive analysis and cross-functional collaboration
  • Manage supplier corrective action processes, including root cause analysis, containment, and verification of effectiveness
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers to enhance quality, reduce defects, and improve delivery performance
  • Collaborate with sourcing, procurement, operations, and engineering teams to align supplier quality expectations with business needs
  • Support incoming quality processes and resolve supplier-related quality issues impacting operations and customers
  • Maintain documentation and records related to supplier quality, audits, and compliance requirements
  • Analyze quality data and trends to identify systemic issues and opportunities for improvement
  • Ensure suppliers adhere to contractual quality requirements, specifications, and industry standards
  • Build strong relationships with key suppliers to foster collaboration, transparency, and long-term performance improvement
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality Management, or a related field
  • 5–8+ years of experience in supplier quality, quality assurance, or supply chain quality roles within distribution, manufacturing, or industrial environments (HVAC, plumbing, appliance, or related industries preferred)
  • Strong experience in supplier qualification, auditing, and performance management
  • Working knowledge of quality management systems (QMS) and relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO)
  • Experience with risk assessment methodologies and supplier risk mitigation strategies
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis and corrective action management (e.g., 8D, CAPA)
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and drive decisions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Experience conducting supplier audits and managing audit programs
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, quality tools, and data analysis platforms
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced supply chain environment
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Six Sigma Green Belt, ASQ CQA) are a plus
Physical Demands & Work Environment
This position may require over 40 hours per week and includes regular physical activity such as:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, data analysis, virtual communication
  • Minimal lifting (typically up to 10-15 pounds, such as a laptop, documents, or office supplies)
  • May require occasional travel (if applicable), which involves walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods
