Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Administrative and Financial

• Analyzes and interprets financial, statistical, and operational data to identify trends, variances, and significant relationships. Analyzes the Sponsored Awards Receivable project, supporting revenue recovery for the University and provides analysis for key SMD F&O initiatives, including awards and proposal success data and internal debt funding.
• Prepares the monthly SMD profit and loss statement, including budget-to-actual variance analysis and reporting. Responsible for the Grants Out of Award and Grant Deficit initiative and co-presents findings at monthly MSAG meetings. Oversees and approves monthly reconciliations of SMD F&O operating accounts.
• Performs analysis and tests to ascertain integrity of accounting data, account balances and timelines of reporting.  Makes day-to-day interpretations and decisions on the accounting treatment of financial transactions.
• Approves first-level transactions affecting SMD and provides guidance for correction or application of manual transactions. Trains incoming staff on UR Financials and the journal entry process.  Helps to consistently develop ways to make reporting and journal entries.
• Ensures proper billing of the University Hospital Affiliates and deposits checks received.  Compiles annual AAMC Faculty Salary survey which requires extensive manipulation of data and comparison of results to the prior year looking for any inconsistencies.  Helps with other AAMC surveys as needed.  Compiles annual SMD F&O space and equipment survey.
• As assigned, assumes responsibility for projects involving research, planning and recommending changes.  Assumes responsibility for the project, establishes time tables, activity plans and coordinates the effort of any necessary staff.

Operations

• Provides analytical and operational support to the Associate Dean & Senior Director of Operations, serving as lead analyst for insurance claims, space productivity and sponsored funding analysis, and other strategic operational projects within SMD Finance & Operations.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent and 5 years of professional accounting experience required
• Master’s degree, equivalent course work, or specialized experience in an appropriate field preferred.
• Fiscal administrative experience preferred.
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Team management skills and experience preferred.  
• Computer skills including use of web based resources and working knowledge of spreadsheet, graphics, and scheduling software are essential preferred. 
• Knowledge of Axiom, Workday, HRMS, URSpace, MyPath, and IORA and other UR systems preferred

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
• CLASP certification obtained at the University of Rochester within one year of job entry preferred.
